"Bill and Billy were very professional and efficient with the projects I had at my home. They built me and 2 car garage and deck off the back of my house. Pricing was very fair and the quality of their work was top notch. They're family owned and operated. I highly recommend them as a general contractor and builder for any home projects."

"We needed to remove an old, exiting glass sunroom and replace it with a deck. Gianfranco stayed in touch throughout the project and the crew, who were great, arrived on time. They started the demolition and construction of the deck the same day. The project was completed earlier then agreed. They worked efficiently and professionally. Jenny stayed in touch with all updates, from the beginning to the very end of the project. The deck came our beautiful! We will definitely use them again."

They listened to what we wanted and added suggestions based on their experience and understanding. Seriously - I was impressed with the level of customer service, their overall concern for our satisfaction and the outcome of the project. Don't spend any more time looking for a deck contractor. "Sentri Homes provided the most professional flooring service I’ve ever had. The LVP installation turned out absolutely beautiful, and I was amazed at how quickly everything was completed without sacrificing quality. The crew was fast, accurate, and extremely detail-oriented from start to finish. Everything was installed cleanly, precisely, and with real craftsmanship. The entire process was smooth, efficient, and far beyond what I expected. I would absolutely recommend Sentri Homes to anyone needing flooring installed."

"I am comfortable with minor wiring projects (hanging a ceiling fan, installing a new light fixture in an existing spot), but new wiring is not something I'm willing to do.  When I removed my old OTR, I realized that the job was beyond me.  I'd used MI in the past, called them up, and got a team out to the house within a few days.  They were in and out quickly, and did the work well.  I will absolutely use them again.  Thanks!

"Bill was very professional. They installed a roof for me in 2013 and I knew then I would use them again.  They are very professional and courteous.  They explained everything in detail and followed-up. They also did a great job cleaning up after the work was completed. Most recently, I have used BTR for repair and "handyman" work. I had the same experience with them.  I would use them again.

"We love our new counter tops! Sam and Tony of Imperial Stone were knowledgeable and professional. They clearly take pride in their company and went out of their way to accommodate our schedule. We were able to go to their warehouse in Indian Trail to look at their granite slabs and to take samples home. They paid close attention to the details before and after installation, taking care to position the hand made patterns on the slab to avoid any areas that might look bad in the finished product. They did a beautiful job hiding the joints. They made sure all our questions were answered about use and care of the granite. The stainless sink that was included in the purchase is high quality and looks great, too. I would definitely hire Imperial Stone again. Note that Imperial Stone only provides and installs the counter tops and the sink. They recommended a contractor to demo the existing tile counter top, to disconnect and then re-plumb the new kitchen sink, to add any trim that might be required, and to install the backsplash. Although working with the contractor to do all the additional work was our responsibility, Sam and Tony explained carefully all that would be required and coordinated with the contractor's schedule."

"JT Harris exhibited excellence from start to finish. Mr. Sean Farrer provided a construction schedule which gave a through detailed description of each stage of the project. I was most impressed with the way JT Harris meant each deadline. In addition, the end product was impeccable.. Because of the professionalism displayed, my organization has recently hired JT Harris again to build two more homes in Greenville, NC."

Custom Home Builders questions, answered by experts

While it’s never too early to start planning for a major home improvement project like a home addition, give yourself at least a month or two to plan and design your addition, find a contractor, and get the permits in order. For larger projects like a second-story addition that require designing with an architect, plan on three to four months of preparation.

A custom home is one that you design from the ground up, allowing you to customize everything from the square footage to the interior layout to all of the materials used. A spec home is one that a builder has designed and gotten approvals for. Spec homes may give you some limited options for the layout and materials, but most of the build is pre-set. Custom homes cost more and take longer to build.

It pays to hire a project manager or general contractor when you have a large-scale project that will take over a week to complete, especially when it involves structural changes and multiple subcontractors. This includes hiring a general contractor to build a house, add an extension, or manage other projects that need a building permit.

Remodeling a house is often less expensive than building a new house. You can expect to pay an average of $100 per square foot when you are remodeling. The cost to build a house averages about $150 per square foot. When remodeling, though, some rooms cost more than $100 per square foot and some cost less. Use a home renovation cost estimator to accurately estimate your remodeling costs.

Yes, you can finance new construction, though the process often requires a different type of loan than one for an existing property. There are several financing options available:

  • Construction-to-Permanent Loan: This is a common option where a single loan covers the building costs and then converts into a traditional mortgage once construction is complete and you move in.

  • Construction Loan (Stand-Alone): This type of loan provides funding only for the duration of the construction project. Once the house is built, you will need to pay the loan in full, typically by securing a separate, standard mortgage.

  • Builder Financing: Some custom homebuilders offer their own financing options, which may only require a down payment to begin the building process.

  • Bridge Loan: This can be a useful short-term loan to fund your new construction while you are in the process of selling your old home.

  • Home Equity Options: If you are building a second home, you might be able to use a home equity line of credit (HELOC) or a cash-out refinance on your current property.

It's also important to be aware that some lenders may have restrictions on financing for DIY house builds, so be sure to verify that you can secure financing before starting your project.
