"I called Clegg's and scheduled an appointment for an estimate. JJ came out as scheduled and gave me an estimate for termite treatment and yard spray for mosquitos (rated separately). The estimate paperwork was pretty straightforward, but I had to verify the fuzzy carbon copied information on my copy. I was surprised that there was no guarantee to pay for future damage like other companies claimed, just a promise of retreatment if I kept up the annual fee - at least I learned that up front. After negotiating the price and what would be included, he had me document my request via email, including the agreed final price, so he could go ahead and have the termite team set up a time at my convenience. They were very accommodating about my work schedule.
The two man team came out close to the appointment time, did a thorough job of drilling, trenching and infusing the Termidor pesticide (fipronil) for about 3.5 hours. They made sure the drilled holes were as inconspicuous as possible along the foundation and inside the garage. They quit promptly at 5:00PM with part of the house remaining, but luckily I had time off work the next day. The team came back for another hour (one different man) and finished the infusing of the holes, sealed every one with cement and cleaned up very nicely. The team steadily worked hard and got the job done. Other than the necessary hundreds of filled holes needed to get the pesticide under the slab, the house base looked clean and neat.
As far as the billing, I thought I would get a bill in the mail, but was called while at a family event to immediately pay the bill in full with my credit card over the phone. I didn't mind paying quickly, but didn't know that would be the process. That would be good to understand up front.
I went with Clegg's even though they were a little higher estimate because when I asked the chemical name for the Termidor, JJ honestly stated he did not know, but would get back to me with the information. Another company gave me misleading information, claiming their product and costs were cheaper because they used the "generic Termidor." I looked it up later and found out it was a completely different chemical - ignorance or deception? A third company never answered their phone, but I couldn't delay getting the treatment done. I was happy with Cleggs termite service (separate review for yard spray).

Pest Control questions, answered by experts

Aside from incorporating smells that roaches hate in your bedroom, such as citronella, lemongrass, or clove oil, there are a few ways you can keep roaches away at night. First, try moving your bed away from the wall, as roaches will often climb the walls and onto your bed. If you’re still having trouble, you can also purchase a mosquito tent for your bed, or hang netting from the ceiling to surround your sleeping area. Make sure it isn’t touching the ground, though, as they may attempt to climb it.

First, you’ll start noticing fewer flying termites in the air. Second, you’ll see fewer ground-based termites near the entrances to their colony, and eventually none at all. Third, if you have access to part of the nest like mud tubes, you can scour away a section and watch it. If the tubes don’t get repaired, the nest is probably doomed. Again, it can take several weeks for termites to fully go away, depending on the type of treatment.

Rubber mulch doesn’t attract mice. Unlike organic mulches, which can serve as food and nesting material for mice, rubber mulch has no nutritional value or comfortable nesting spots, making it less appealing to rodents.

The time it takes for termites to damage a house varies, but it generally does not happen within days or weeks. Significant structural damage typically takes several months or years to occur, with serious damage often taking 3 to 8 years. The rate of destruction depends on factors like the termite colony's size and maturity, the type of wood they are feeding on, and local conditions. It can take 3 to 5 years for damage to become visible and 5 to 6 years for the home's structural integrity to be compromised. However, some species, such as Subterranean termites, are more destructive and can cause extensive damage in as little as 2 years. Because of this risk, it is important to treat your home as soon as you notice any signs of termites.

The best way to deal with a rodent problem is to avoid it in the first place. One way to do that is to make your home smell uninviting to them. Here are some household products that can repel rodents. When using oils, try soaking a cotton ball in the stuff and leaving it in places rodents frequent:

  • Peppermint oil

  • Eucalyptus oil

  • Cinnamon

  • Vinegar

  • Cedarwood

  • Cloves

  • Garlic

  • Chili oil/powder

  • Cayenne pepper
