"My wife and I flew into to town today to find our property wreaking with a strong odor of mold and mildew. I found Joel’s company online and called upon him for help. He responded immediately, and then inspected the property and confirmed our suspicions. I would highly recommend this company as they are trustworthy, honest, and reliable."

"Contacted me right away, gave me a preliminary estimate over the phone. Showed up on time for his appointment and inspection, gave me a final estimate. Told me about other thing that should/could be done at a later date. Completed the work at the time he expected and cleaned up everything. I could not have expected anything better!"

"Want to go on record to say that service was excellent from initial contact and a thorough timely evaluation and appraisal with supporting documentation. I found the work to be very professional and was done in an expedient fashion. Company was very transparent in pricing and I found their actual pricepoint to be more than fair for the final rendered report. That said, I would gladly use this company again if I had the need."

"I contacted the company and they were easy to schedule with, they provided a competitive quote. They charged a fee to come out and do an inspection but they provided me with a written / emailed estimate along with pictures from under the home and a written report of the crawlspace inspection."

"I never really used any local crawl space specialist innthe greater910 area. So I priced around and got some estimates with basically all the crawl space companies to include individual folks on thumbtack. My final reach out was to Koons, and I spoke with the man himself, Mr. Koons, and let me tell youâ ¦.not only is this guy beyond knowledgeable, but heâ s responsive and their work is timely, but most importantly heâ s honest, which is beyond rare these days. His honesty smoked out the competitors estimates, and then he lapped them. Which competitors exactly, well all of them, google anyone in the 910 area that does this kind of work and he crushed them. He saved my family over 6 thousand dollars in costly repairs. On top of saving a couple future mortgage payments or braces for kids, the job looked way better than before, and better than what Iâ ve seen in most new homes. Donâ t go with some big company thatâ s not only going to nickel and dime you, and take you to the bank for more, go with this cat, his integrity and work ethic are worth it alone. I donâ t know if you can tell by my review, but I highly recommend them, theyâ re my go to now."

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

Most chimney crowns cannot be seen from the street or yard. As a result, most homeowners are completely unaware that their damaged or deteriorating chimney crowns need repairs or replacements. Chimney inspections offered by contractors can verify any damage.

It depends on the bank and the extent of the issue. Some banks will lend against homes with minor foundation damage, but most won’t if the issue is structural since the home acts as collateral for the mortgage. Banks that offer renovation loans might still finance a home with structural problems. More minor issues like settling cracks and intermittent problems with humidity are unlikely to stop a bank from financing.

There are many things to look for when buying a brick house. Here are some of the key things you should pay close attention to.

  • Lintels: Look for cracks, holes, displacement, or corrosion

  • Mortar: Check to see if the mortar is old and crumbling, in need of repointing, or new. Also check to see if the mortar has a professional finish.

  • Walls: Check along each side of the house. If a wall is bowing outward, this indicates a severe issue such as foundation damage or that the walls are ready to fall.

  • Cracks: If there are stair step cracks in the brickwork, this indicates an unstable foundation.

From the underwriter to the home inspector, the team working to help you buy a house is there to make sure it is a sound financial decision and that the house is worth what you're paying for it.

A sale can fall through when a mortgage lender discovers the cost of the home plus closing costs is too high for your current financial status. Another potential issue is that an inspector or appraiser can find issues with the home that halt the sale if the offer is far higher than what it's worth.

Repiping a house is a worthy investment in several scenarios. Key indicators that it's time to repipe include having pipes that are over 50 years old, experiencing frequent leaks and repairs, or noticing signs of corrosion and low water quality. It is especially important to replace pipes made from certain materials; lead pipes can cause serious health issues, galvanized steel can lead to rusty water, and polybutylene pipes can leach chemicals into your water supply.

Investing in new plumbing can prevent costly problems like water damage and mold growth. New pipes can last anywhere from 50 to 100 years, saving you money on future repairs and high water bills. Repiping can also increase your home's overall value and improve efficiency, for example, by using PEX pipes for lines that don't carry hot water. The cost to repipe a house typically ranges from $1,500 to $15,000.
