"Everything was perfect. I left a voicemail and he called me back within minutes. We discussed my problems and he understood my computer gibberish. He came to my house to pick up the laptop. He notified me that night about the cost of the replacement parts and length of shipping. He then contacted me when my computer was fixed. He delivered it to my house.

"What started as a simple $149 air duct cleaning session almost immediately became a major repair job when the workers discovered water in the chiller unit, which is in the attic. The PVC drain pipes were blocked and water had backed up into the air returns, had soaked the insulation, and there was mold. The lead worker pointed out the problem with dripping moldy insulation. He told me that the problem was serious and needed to be fixed before the weight of the water took the air returns through the ceiling. He said that he could fix it or I could get another company but I needed to do something soon. Since I was about to go on vacation, I opted to have the company do the repair immediately. The lead worker prepared a detailed estimate and explained what would be done. They completed all the work and asked me to schedule a return appointment in two to three weeks for them to check how well the unit was draining. A different crew came three weeks later (on a Sunday--how convenient) and found a small "leak," which they repaired. The lead person asked me to schedule one more follow-up appointment to verify everything is working correctly, which I will do shortly.

And they did a good job on cleaning the air conditioning ducts, bathroom exhaust fan vents and dryer vents, too."

Humidifier Repair questions, answered by experts

Several styles of HVAC dampers exist, some with motors and some without. The various types include butterfly, blade, louvered, guillotine, and more. The names describe their construction style and how air moves through them. Motorized versions work through wiring connected to a control panel within the HVAC system. Manual versions allow an operator to decide which way to send the airflow and make the adjustment by hand.

There are some physical signs you need to have a humidifier that manifest as signs in your home and body. For the home, Watch for cracked and peeling paint, dry wooden flooring and furniture, excessively loud creaking wooden floors or doors, and an increase in the electricity needed to cool or heat the home. Physical symptoms include frequent dry air passages, Scratchy throat, increased allergy symptoms, and dry eyes.

It improves air quality, prevents dry skin, protects wood furniture, and enhances overall comfort.

No, air purifiers neither cause dry air nor increase the home's humidity levels. They remove allergens and dust but don't alter the water content in indoor air. However, because some air purifiers move large volumes of air, the areas immediately surrounding a portable unit can feel cooler and dryer than the rest of the home.

During your HVAC preseason maintenance call, your contractor will inspect the system for any problems and make small adjustments for better efficiency. Tasks include, though are not limited to:

  • Changing filters

  • Checking the thermostat

  • Clearing away dust and debris

  • Checking for mold

  • Inspecting electrical elements

  • Inspecting condensate lines and drain

  • Cleaning evaporator coils

  • Ensuring ignition function

While you can do some of these services yourself, hiring a professional to keep HVAC equipment running can be helpful. These experts know what to look for and may be able to spot potential issues before they become problems. Many HVAC companies offer annual maintenance plans.
