"We replaced the windows in our 1933 home through the services of MadCity Windows. From the initial contact with their sales representative to final installation, the company provided top notch professional work. With the draft from the old windows and the cold of the glass, we are already saving on our energy bills. Our house had old, large windows, so they had to be custom made. As an industrial designer and interior designer, we find our windows to be of excellent quality."

Small jobs welcome

"Mr. Jordan replaced three window screens for us. The windows had not had screens for as long as we have had this house. The screens are exactly what we expected and they fit perfectly. The job was completed in a timely manner and the cost was very reasonable. As a plus, Mr. Jordan is personable."

"I have nothing but rave reviews for the three women from GI Cleaning Services who came to clean my house today. I needed a thorough cleaning before Thanksgiving and it’s spotless now. Three women cleaned for 2 hours without taking a break. They worked the entire time they were here and the house looks immaculate! I have hardwood floors and they made them shine. They dusted, cleaned, or vacuumed every nook and cranny. They clean the blinds, baseboards, window sills, each piece of furniture, they vacuum the walls and door casings, etc. My tub/shower and entire bathroom looks amazing and sparkles. I highly recommend the women who came to clean my house from GI Cleaning Services. They work hard, the results are great, and the price is very reasonable. I will definitely call them again."

Windows questions, answered by experts

Picture windows last about 20 to 50 years, depending on the material, your location, and how well you maintain the windows over the years. Materials like vinyl and aluminum may not last as long, while fiberglass can last many years. Wood will last decades if you keep up with maintenance. Homes in areas with harsh weather throughout the year may cause windows to have shorter lifespans.

The average lifespan for a casement window is around 20 years, but some higher-end casement windows with more durable frame materials can last up to around 40 years before you need to replace them. You’ll need to carry out routine maintenance and window cleaning—and, on occasion, casement window restoration—to extend the lifespan of your casement windows. But they tend to wear more slowly than windows with sliding sashes because the weatherstripping sees minimal friction.

A double-hung window features two operable sashes, meaning it has an upper window part and a lower part that can both open to let in fresh air. A picture window has one fixed glass panel that doesn’t open. Double-hung windows cost about $200 to $2,500, while picture windows cost about $200 to $1,900.

The purpose of an awning window is to let fresh air into your home without taking up too much wall space. They’re ideal if you live somewhere that gets a lot of rain because their design helps prevent rain from coming into your home. In bathrooms, awning windows also help with ventilation but don’t compromise your privacy.

An egress window is similar to a regular window. However, this type of window opens fully to allow people to escape the home or rescue personnel to enter the home if an emergency occurs. Egress windows are required in all finished basements before they can be considered a living space.
