"We replaced the windows in our 1933 home through the services of MadCity Windows. From the initial contact with their sales representative to final installation, the company provided top notch professional work. With the draft from the old windows and the cold of the glass, we are already saving on our energy bills. Our house had old, large windows, so they had to be custom made. As an industrial designer and interior designer, we find our windows to be of excellent quality."

Small jobs welcome

"Mr. Jordan replaced three window screens for us. The windows had not had screens for as long as we have had this house. The screens are exactly what we expected and they fit perfectly. The job was completed in a timely manner and the cost was very reasonable. As a plus, Mr. Jordan is personable."

"I have nothing but rave reviews for the three women from GI Cleaning Services who came to clean my house today. I needed a thorough cleaning before Thanksgiving and it’s spotless now. Three women cleaned for 2 hours without taking a break. They worked the entire time they were here and the house looks immaculate! I have hardwood floors and they made them shine. They dusted, cleaned, or vacuumed every nook and cranny. They clean the blinds, baseboards, window sills, each piece of furniture, they vacuum the walls and door casings, etc. My tub/shower and entire bathroom looks amazing and sparkles. I highly recommend the women who came to clean my house from GI Cleaning Services. They work hard, the results are great, and the price is very reasonable. I will definitely call them again."

Windows questions, answered by experts

You will need about half of a caulking cartridge to caulk one window. The average home has eight to 10 windows, so you would need about 4 or 5 cartridges to caulk every window in an average-sized house. However, you may not need to caulk all the windows at once. If just one window has a pesky draft, you may only need half of a cartridge to fill in the gaps.

If the existing frame around the window sash is completely structurally sound, it's possible to save money by swapping out the sash for a new one instead of getting a new window. Keep in mind that it will be necessary to find a new sash that perfectly matches your existing window structure. In general, consulting a window pro to help you find the right match is the best way to ensure you're doing this project correctly.

Contrary to popular belief, wavy glass in older homes isn't caused by warping. The blowing technique used to create windows in homes dating back to the 1700s, 1800s, and early 1900s left behind small bubbles that create a wavy effect. If a glass window is functional, there's no need to consider wavy glass damaged. In fact, many homeowners prefer the old charm of wavy glass.

Making a window in a basement larger costs an average of $4,200. You’ll need to pay an average of $550 to have a structural engineer plan the project, $500 to $1,500 for the installation labor, and an average of $2,200 for the excavation and window well installation. The remainder will go toward pulling permits, installing trim, and repairing drywall on the interior.

When it comes to your pocket, opting for energy-efficient windows can lead to an average of 12% in energy bill savings. That totals to yearly energy savings between $100 and $600. However, the exact amount you’ll save hinges on factors like your local climate and the number of windows in your home.
