"Friday evening - no water! Later Friday evening - spoke with Garrett at Banks Well Pump Services LLC. Saturday morning - Garrett diagnosed the problem as a failed water pump. Monday - new water pump installed in 700 foot deep well. Losing water pressure is never a good thing. But I feel very fortunate to have connected with Garrett. He's knowledgeable, he's careful, he does quality work and he's a pleasure to work with."

"I wish that they at least look through a camera to see what was clogging the drain. The team was nice, polite, and clean. But, the cost was a bit too much for just running the snake through the pipe, and not knowing the root cause of the problem. They need a camera!"

"Great - they were on time; did what they said they would do. All employees were knowledgeable about the products and services including Geneva who ran the office. They pretested my house and well water to recommend what would fit our needs and showed all tests - which were done at the house and results were shared immediately. Would use this company again and recommend them to anyone who needs house filtration and or water softening."

"Both times they were prompt, courteous and helpful. After servicing when my toilet was gurgling, I had a long conversation with Erin at the office and she was very informative and helpful in trying to decide if it was a plumbing issue or a septic tank issue. She recommended some plumbers and one came that afternoon and addressed the issue. I was so thankful that she spent time on the phone with me, helping to problem solve this issue."

"After experiencing water pressure loss, I assumed we needed to replace our well pump. I received a call from A-1 from a Home Advisor referral, and despite their jammed schedule, Travis arranged for Chris to come out on a Saturday afternoon. Before Chris arrived, we also lost hot water. He diagnosed two problems immediately (neither was the well pump itself): A malfunctioning water pressure tank / PSI meter connected to our filter, plus a rusted and leaking water heater. Chris restored our water pressure for cold water and cut off the access to the water heater to stop flooding in the crawl space. It was a bit complicated working around an older system set-up and original building flaws, but Chris was good-natured and determined to fix it right the first time . Travis picked up a special order (low profile) water heater for us first thing Monday morning and installed it before Noon. Though water heaters are not A-1 s primary line of business, they saved us over $450 vs other plumber quotes. Our water pressure has never been stronger and hot water delivery is the most reliable it s ever been in our 22 year old home. Good folks; prompt, courteous and trustworthy."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Selecting the right system depends on testing your water to understand the contaminants present and considering your household's water usage and specific needs, such as removing specific contaminants.

You should not use a water conditioner with a water softener because a water conditioner changes the chemistry of the water and causes the ion exchange in a softener to be ineffective. Choose a water softener if you have hard water or well water, and use a water conditioner if you need to remove certain contaminants.

You can install a water softener system by turning off the water supply, draining the water, and then connecting your device to the waterline. Next, you’ll fill your tank with the recommended amount of salt or brine (whichever your unit calls for; be sure to read the instructions). Turn the water supply on and check for leaks. You can opt to let your water run for a few minutes, then test it using strips.

The process of inspecting your water softener system is similar.

There are many possibilities for why your shower’s water pressure is low. It might be a simple-to-fix issue like the water valves being partially turned off, a dirty showerhead or hose, leaks in the plumbing, or an old showerhead. However, low water pressure in the shower could also indicate a larger issue with your home’s plumbing system.

The main difference between a water softener and a water filter is what they remove from the water. A water softener is specifically designed to remove hard minerals, while a filter removes a wider range of contaminants above a certain size, such as bacteria and other impurities. If your primary goal is to remove minerals, a softener is the best choice. If you want to remove various contaminants for safety or taste, a filter is more suitable. Filters are also typically less expensive to install. Depending on your water supply's specific issues, you may need to install both systems for comprehensive treatment.
