"I set up an appointment for a quote from Cape Fear based on a recommendation from a neighbor, and Justin came on time (he actually called and asked if it would be OK if he came early). He was easy to work with, seemed very knowledgeable, and very thorough as he looked at my current setup and discussed the various options for replacement. I liked some of the recommendations he made as far as adjusting some of the duct routing to ease air flow. I decided to have him quote a 2-ton Trane XL16c packaged AC / Gas Furnace unit and XL16c hybrid (AC and gas furnace / heat pump), which was brand new at the time - it wasn't even in their system yet. When I was provided with a quote, the paper listed the 3-ton unit since the 2-ton unit was so new, but Justin assured me that the price was for the 2-ton unit. I received another quote for the same unit from a different company, and the price was significantly lower. So, I went back to Justin and asked him to double check the price. He did confirm that the price listed on my quote was for a 3-ton unit and provided a new number for the 2-ton unit, but I was left with a bad feeling over what would have happened if I hadn't received a competitive quote and questioned them. Also, the other company I dealt with talked with the Trane rep, and stated while the XL16C gas pack was available in a 2-ton unit, the hybrid unit (with gas furnace and heat pump) was not available in a 2-ton unit. This quote process was at the end of December, and they offered an extra $500 off if we would install before the end of the year. Would they have taken the money for a 3-ton unit and only delivered a 2-ton unit, or would they have realized the error when I went to pay and said 'we quoted you the wrong price'? If I ordered the hybrid unit and paid for a 2-ton unit, what would have been delivered? These could have been honest mistakes or not - I really have no way of knowing. In the end, I didn't feel comfortable with the way the quote process went, so I decided to go with another vendor."

The diverter valve in your bathtub is responsible for diverting water between your tub spout and your shower head. If water comes out of both at the same time, you have a faulty diverter valve. You can have a plumber replace this for you, or you can replace it yourself if you have some experience working with plumbing fixtures.

Never pour used motor oil down the drain. Doing so can have serious environmental consequences, including contaminating groundwater, endangering animals, and killing vegetation. Drain cleaners can also easily damage and corrode your plumbing with prolonged contact, and a clog will keep the cleaner in contact with the pipes for an extended period. Adding plumbing to a detached garage or shed can increase the value of your house, especially if the garage is properly insulated, conditioned, and finished so that it can serve as additional living space—as a rental property, for guests, or as an in-law suite. However, it’s unlikely that the cost to add plumbing to a detached garage will increase the property value enough to recoup your investment (and don’t forget: you’ll likely see increased property taxes after the renovation).
