"Jason worked extremely hard to remove the old paint on our back patio. It was very resistant to both the stripper chemicals used and the power washing efforts. The pointing of the brick on the front patio came out well."

"They did a great job from the salesman to the roofers. Everything the salesman told me (and he went thru everything that would be done, step by step) was done from the materials being dropped off the day before to the clean up after the roof was done. I hope I don.t ever need it but the 50 year / unlimited wind guarantee isnice and it's even transferable if i ever want to move"

"I contacted several services, and decided to go with Marcel and Michael after meeting them. They do not just give vague estimates; they take measurements and really assess the needs of your project. I had an ancient, very dirty deck and stairs, and they made it fabulous! They are attentive, thorough, work their assess off, and take pride in their work. Without a doubt I would recommend them. I have already requested their help in future maintenance. I would like to add that when Marcel was reviewing the photos after finishing the job, he noticed some very small areas that the stain had missed. He came out the next morning for a touch up. Amazing service. Laura M., Oak Island, NC"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Yes, pressure washing a wood deck can be a good idea as it effectively lifts ingrained dirt, mold, and mildew, improving the deck's appearance and longevity. However, it must be done carefully, as it's easy to damage the wood, especially softwoods. To pressure wash safely, use a lower pressure setting and a wide, 40-degree fan pattern nozzle (often white). Keep the nozzle at least a foot away from the wood surface and maintain constant motion, avoiding hovering in one spot to prevent gouging.

Yes, adding railing to a deck is a great way to improve safety and your home’s aesthetic appeal. Railings can be constructed from wood, metal, or composite, and there are plenty of choices regarding design and style. Always consult local building codes before starting any building project—there are often requirements regarding spacing and height that can differ slightly from place to place.

The overhang, or nosing, of deck steps is another area that will be covered in building code requirements. The noses on your deck steps should have a minimum overhang of ¾ inch. For safety, usability, and code compliance, the nosing of deck steps should not extend past 1¼ inches.

You can use a few different tactics to prevent your deck gate from sagging. Aside from using strong, rot-resistant woods, introducing a diagonal element—such as a tension rod or solid piece of wood to act as a brace—across the gate will offer better support. You can also use rigid joists to prevent the gate from sagging.

How long it takes to install composite decking depends on the size of the decking material, the skills of the person installing the deck, the number of people helping, and how much prep work needs to be done before you can begin. Generally speaking, it takes anywhere from a few days to several weeks to build a composite deck.
