"There were snags as you might expect with a job this size, but none were as a result of Walt. He is great! We did have issues with one of his sub-contractors, but I don't think Walt will be using them again."

"Great! Ken Starr, our Project Leader, was wonderful to work with and kept us in the loop. All the Contractors were so professional and although, we didn't reside here during the remodel, I came over everyday and brought our dog, Maxine, to stay here while I had appointments and ran errands. You realize you are working with great folks when they love on your dog! She loved all the guys and all the belly rubs! I especially appreciated Kenny and Larry for their overall expertise on all the areas of our remodel. They both educated and reassured me throughout the process. They were a joy to have around. Anytime I had a question, they were here to answer all my concerns. The Painters led by Carlos were so great to work with, the Electrician, Jonathan Medlin, was awesome and helped me pick out a suitable exterior ceiling fan for our front porch, Jody, the Tile Guy was always concerned that I would like the grout color and even held up a day so I could come by and check it out. We now have a totally remodeled home much more functional than I would have ever imagined! Thank you all, Sandra C."

"Bill and Billy were very professional and efficient with the projects I had at my home. They built me and 2 car garage and deck off the back of my house. Pricing was very fair and the quality of their work was top notch. They're family owned and operated. I highly recommend them as a general contractor and builder for any home projects."

"Hired Joe to install electrical outlets in the middle of our living room floor for our new electric couches. As always, the three man crew it was professional, thorough, and just a great bunch of guys. The owner's, Joe and Lisa were here to oversee the work to make sure everything was done to Joe's high standards of quality. They also installed two new plugs on our porches. These guys do it all, and they do it well! Anytime I need anything done with my home for now on, Dixie Home Improvements is the first place I'm gonna call. Highly recommend!"

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Yes, most services include necessary frame modifications for proper door fitting. Confirm with your provider.

The cost to frame a 2,000-square-foot house can fall anywhere between $14,000 and $32,000. This price can increase or decrease depending on what type of framing you choose, the quality of the materials, the project's complexity, and whether you decide to hire a professional to do the job.

If you remove a load-bearing wall to create an entrance to a carport or covered patio, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. Factors such as the type of addition and if that area needs additional work will add to the price.

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

It's possible to turn your carport into a living space, but there are additional factors to address over turning it into a garage. HVAC, plumbing, and electricity won't be optional, and you'll need finished flooring, drywall, trim work, and legal ceiling height, for starters. Also, keep in mind that living space conversions may require upgrading the foundation underneath, and the permits might be more expensive as well.
