"Diego and his crew did an amazing job. They were finished in 2 days painting the interior of our home. It is beautiful. We couldn’t be happier. We have shared his contact with our entire neighborhood where the new homes were all done with cheap, flat, unwashable paint. Very pleased."

Customers say: Quick response

"Reybel not only repaired drywall, but installed a 3/4" wooden floor, which he took the time to match each piece of wood before installing. He is always on time, and shows up when he says he's going to. He also installed a double sliding door for me. His work is impeccable. I would highly recommend him."

"I was referred to Longs Services by a friend. I hired Tim to complete move out repairs in the apartment that I had resided in for more than six years. He was able to patch and blend the knockdown texture on numerous drywall holes that ranged from small to large. My dog had scratched and tore up the front door casing and created a large hole in the wall next to it and Tim was able to repair that entire area without replacing the entire door casing. There were multiple other repairs completed and a complete cleaning was done as well. Thanks to their hard work instead of owing upon my move out I received my entire deposit back. My landlord told me how much getting this done saved me and Iâ m very thankful."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Yes, drywall nail pops are a common occurrence in homes, both new and old, resulting from the settling and shifting of the structure over time. Though not present in every room or on every wall, encountering nail pops in different sections of a home is not unusual, particularly if the temperature, humidity, or foundation has experienced changes.

You should not leave drywall outside, especially overnight or in a wet, humid climate. Exposure to rain and humidity can damage the drywall, weakening its structural integrity and making it susceptible to mold growth. If you must leave drywall outside during a project, be sure to cover it with a tarp or keep it inside a storage shed to protect it. Even drywall intended for exterior projects requires a protective moisture barrier. For best results, store any extra drywall in a dry area away from the elements.

All plaster walls will crack over time due to normal house settling and expansion and contraction from temperature and moisture changes. Small, thin hairline cracks are generally not serious and are mostly a cosmetic issue. However, larger or more significant cracks can indicate structural problems.

Here's how to tell the difference:

  • Cosmetic Cracks: Cracks that are 0.5 cm (0.2 inches) or thinner are typically cosmetic.

  • Structural Cracks: Cracks wider than 0.5 cm, excessive or deep cracks, multiple cracks in the same area, or cracks that span around corners can signify a structural or foundation issue. Cracks along the joints where walls meet the ceiling also warrant attention.

For cracks wider than 0.5 cm, structural repair is needed. If a crack is 2.5 cm (1 inch) or wider, or if you notice any signs of a structural problem, it is best to contact a plaster repair professional to assess the damage.

Whether to repair or replace water-damaged plaster depends on the scale of the damage. For small, limited areas, you can often perform a repair yourself. If you choose to paint over small patches, ensure the surface is completely dry and apply a coat of antifungal primer first to prevent mold growth. However, simply painting or plastering over the damage is only a temporary solution that doesn't address the core problem. For more extensive or long-term damage, the plaster may be compromised, and there is a risk of mold. In these cases, it is recommended to remove the damaged section of plasterboard and replace it. You may consider hiring a professional for the repair, and it's worth noting that water damage is often covered by home insurance.

While a normal moisture level for drywall is between 5% and 12%, replacement is recommended if you get consistent readings above 17%. At this level, the drywall is likely too compromised by extensive moisture damage to be considered safe. You can replace either the entire sheet or just the affected section. If you are unsure after a visual inspection, it is best to have a contractor or water restoration provider use a professional moisture meter to get an accurate reading.
