"Brett and his team did an excellent job on the roof! I was so pleased with the job they did, I immediately turned around and hired them to repair the ceiling in the room that was damaged by the faulty roof. I was quite pleased with their workmanship and their attention to detail."

"My husband and I had been looking for someone to complete a few maintenance repairs around our home (replacing shutters, fix trim along the rooftop, fix siding on the house, replace framework and seals around the garage door and install a ceiling fan). Jeremy Williams did a wonderful job completing all the repairs we needed done. He was very professional and friendly from the initial meeting to the completion of the home repairs. Thank you for all you did for us and we will definitely contact you for our future home repairs."

Customers say: Quick response

"Reybel not only repaired drywall, but installed a 3/4" wooden floor, which he took the time to match each piece of wood before installing. He is always on time, and shows up when he says he's going to. He also installed a double sliding door for me. His work is impeccable. I would highly recommend him."

"Mike McCoy and his crew did a great job removing the old texture and painting all of the ceilings in our home for a reasonable price. He responded to any questions and calls, the crew was punctual, masked off the entire house, paid attention to detail and kept the debris and mess to a minimum. Would recommend hiring for your next project."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

It is possible to apply plaster on the interior or exterior of your home, but we don’t recommend it. Plaster is easy to apply in theory, but in reality, it can be a challenging material to work with, and it’s difficult to get the finished product to look clean, even, and smooth. Many DIYers end up calling in a professional afterward to touch up the area or even redo it entirely because of mistakes they made in the process. Hiring a plaster pro will cost more, but it’s usually the best option to achieve high-quality results.

Common causes include water leaks, settling, and impact. Address underlying issues to prevent recurring damage.

You can skim coat plaster, but it’s better to repair the plaster itself. A skim coat is a thin coat of drywall joint compound spread over the surface of a wall. The result is a flat finish that looks pleasing, but part of the appeal of plaster is its imperfections and aesthetic. Skim coating is best when limited to drywall applications.

If you’re installing new drywall, you may need to skim coat the drywall first for a smooth finish and to allow the primer to adhere to the wall. It’s only necessary if there are imperfections in your drywall due to issues with the studs or improper drywall installation. If you’re refreshing existing walls, you may want to skim coat if there are imperfections across the wall. As an alternative, you can repair your drywall and sand it for a smooth finish before painting.

Popular wall textures include orange peel, knockdown, spray sand, and smooth finishes. Orange peel and knockdown are particularly common choices for drywall as they are simple and cost-effective. Orange peel texture has a lightly bumpy surface resembling the skin of an orange, while knockdown (sometimes called knockout) looks like a stucco finish with flattened high spots. In contrast, popcorn texture has fallen out of fashion, partly due to its past association with asbestos and a shift toward more restrained interior design styles.
