No, you can't apply limewash with a roller and expect good results. Limewash is as much a technique as it is a type of paint, and a freehand application with a brush is part of that technique. Hand brushing a large area can be tiring, but limewash goes on easily and only requires thin coats to be effective.

The answer to whether you need to clean the walls before painting depends largely on the condition of the existing finish and your desired results. You can often get away with painting bedroom and living room walls with just a dusting and some high-quality paint. However, the best results come from doing all of the prep steps first, including a gentle cleaning.

While you could conceivably select any paint finish, paintable wallpaper tends to look its best with a flat or eggshell finish. A higher gloss paint might make the texture pop more, but it can look a bit dated once the paint has dried. And don’t worry about whether a water-based latex paint will loosen the wallpaper. Paintable wallpaper has a coating that prevents this from happening, so using latex paints without applying an oil-based primer to seal things first is fine.

This largely depends on your environment and how well the paint was sealed. Properly sealed chalk paint furniture that isn’t regularly dinged by toys or steel boots can last 5 years or—often significantly—longer. However, if it isn’t sealed correctly or is subject to regular wear and tear, you can expect the coat to last 3 years or less.
