"Rodrigo and his team completely transformed my kitchen. They painted my wooden stained cabinets, walls, trim and ceiling. The cabinets look like new! They are expert painters and pay close attention to detail. I would hire them again in the future and highly recommend them to anyone in need of their services!"

"I am so happy to know that there are still businesses who actually act professional in Gastonia. I own a rental property and had some cracks in the the walls that needed repairs. I called Wes, who owns the company. Wes was very attentive to my needs and answered all of the questions I had. He scheduled to meet me at the rental property the very next day and he showed up on time. Wes took his time to measure what I needed done and explain things so that I could understand and walked the entire perimeter of the house to explain what his services would be. I had them prep and paint the deck and foundation outside. Straight Edge also painted the entire inside of the property. Wes was in constant communication with me me throughout the process and made sure that I was informed of what was going on. His quote was better than his competitors and the quality of work was awesome. As a rental proprerty owner I deal with a lot of individuals in the service industry and Straight Edge has really proven that professionalism still exists. Quality work without breaking the bank! I would recommend to everyone."

Customers say: True professional

"I received four quotes to paint the exterior trim of our home. NJM's quote was literally half the price of the highest quote, and one of them said it was too cold to paint outside in December and said we should wait until March when the weather got warmer. NJM didn't have a problem with the cold weather and used Latitude paint. We picked out the color and they purchased the paint for almost half the price it would have cost us to buy it ourselves. NJM were on time, stayed late and got the exterior of a 3500 sq foot home painted in less than a week. The detail they put into the project was amazing. They pressure washed the trim, dormers and caulked every issue they found. Very flexible, good communication and great customer service. The house looks wonderful and we couldn't be happier with the result."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

It’s best to use an exterior latex acrylic paint to promote maximum adhesion to composite decking. This flexible paint type can better cope with the natural expansion and contraction that can occur with composite deck boards. Oil-based paints won’t adhere as effectively and are more likely to crack and peel as the boards flex. Testing whether your chosen paint will stick on an inconspicuous section or a spare board is a good idea.

Yes, it is generally a very good idea to seal your deck after pressure washing. Power washing removes not only dirt and debris but also a thin layer of wood, leaving the surface exposed and more susceptible to weathering. Sealing is almost always needed after this process. After a general cleaning, sealing isn't automatically necessary if the existing sealant is still intact. You can test the surface by placing a few drops of water on it. If the water beads up, the sealant is working. If it soaks into the wood, it's time to apply a new sealant. If it has been a few years, it's wise to remove the old sealant, wash the deck, and reseal for maximum protection.

Wood stain does go bad, but it will last in the can for between three and six years, provided you use proper storage techniques. Storing wood stain in open containers or in extremely low or high temperatures will cause your wood stain to become unusable much more quickly. Water- and latex-based wood stains typically last for just two to four years, while oil-based wood stains can last for three to six years.

You’ll want to avoid excessively hot or humid conditions, so it’s best to apply your stain in late spring to early fall. It's also important to watch the weather forecast and aim for days when there isn’t rain expected for at least three days. For new decks, allow the wood to season beforehand for at least four to eight weeks.

Stains penetrate wood best when it's cool and dry, so you want to avoid moisture. If the wood is wet upon application, or if it rains before the stain dries, the water will soak into the wood and displace the staining solution. This leads to a flaky and blotchy look, which is the opposite of a sumptuous even coat. Once the stain has fully cured, after about 3 days, rain shouldn’t cause you any problems.
