Customers say: Super punctual

"I selected AAX Painting for my project. I needed my split level house located near Sylva NC exterior painted. This consisted of pressure washing and two coats of paint. I selected AAX Painting because of their reasonable quote and good reviews left by other customers. After selecting and talking with them I found they used Sherwin Williams paint which is quality product. They were professional, knowledgeable, and efficient. They dealt with some unique problems since they were from Asheville Hendersonville area which had massive flooding problems prior to starting the project in Sylva. They have done a great job and I'm very pleased with the end results and would hire them again if I have any future projects. Thanks, Bob Russ"

"The PaintAsheville team was very professional during our first meeting and explained in detail their process. They made recommendations regarding product and coloring, as well as a contractor to repair siding prior to paint. In addition, Crystal (one of the owners) assisted us with stain samples that helped finalize a color and finish. The painting crew was on-time, courteous and very responsive to questions and requests. We are extremely happy with the results. Overall, the PaintAsheville team delivered a superior product for a very competitive price. Weâ ll definitely consider them for any future painting projects!"

"Marvin the team leader and his crew were the very best. They came early and worked on the house for a full day. Any minor request I'd ask them they were happy to take care of. The price to paint our house was better than we expected. I highly recommend this company to paint anything you want done. A+++ rating!"

Painting questions, answered by experts

A dry lawn is easier to edge than a wet one. When your ground is wet, your blades will likely clump together, making a seemingly even cut while wet, but an uneven disaster when dried. Also, a wet lawn can impact your blade's performance and cause mud to kick up, resulting in a messy finish.

The process of painting or staining a fence typically takes between one and five days. The total duration depends on factors like the size of the fence, weather conditions, and necessary drying times. A significant portion of this time is for drying, as stain won't properly absorb into wet wood. You should wait 24 hours to stain a fence after washing it and allow 12 to 24 hours of drying time between each coat. The active work time is generally about one hour for every 10 to 20 linear feet of fencing.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.

Yes, you can waterproof any wood that has not already been treated. A good way to test this is to splash some water on it. If the water starts to bead up, the wood is treated and most likely doesn’t need another coating.

Whitewashing isn’t permanent, but it can last for a long, long time. When you apply it correctly or have a seasoned pro whitewash your brick, whitewashing can last for 20 to 30 years or longer. Whitewash is very durable and typically requires little maintenance, making it a great project for most DIYers.
