"Hurricane Helene blew several trees down in our yard. They fell on different areas of our privacy fence requiring some planks to be replaced. We called Mr. Handyman of Asheville and Hendersonville hoping they could fix it in a timely manner. We were able to schedule an appointment the next day! The customer service was excellent and Sarah was attentive to our needs. The technician, Tim, was there on time, he was knowledgeable about the work we requested, and very understanding as well as friendly. He performed the work, quickly, the same day at a reasonable price. We would absolutely recommend Mr. Handyman! Thank you!!"

"I was very impressed with the tint job on my van. It came out perfect and I get lots of comments on it. I would recommend lifetime window tinting to anyone looking to have their windows tinted. I’ve seen some do it yourself tint jobs and they don’t even come close to a professional tint job. I highly recommend this company."

"It went great! Eldridge and crew went the extra mile. They caulked all the MANY open cracks around the whole house -- even though that required about 14 tubes of caulk -- unstuck windows that had been stuck closed for years, did a little carpentry work where needed, and rehung an outside door, in addition to doing a great job painting the whole exterior and doors and trim. I could tell they really care about their work."

Window Shutters questions, answered by experts

Wood is the most classic shutter material. Common options include pine, cedar, or brasswood. MDF shutters are also a more affordable option that retains the timeless, classic look. Composite shutters, mainly vinyl and aluminum shutters, have also become more popular over the years. You may also find steel shutters, sometimes referred to as security shutters, used on the exterior. Shutters also come in various colors and finishes, adding another layer of design flexibility.

Not all windows are suitable for shutters, as certain styles can prevent them from functioning correctly. It's best to avoid installing shutters on bay windows, picture windows, dormer windows, and double-mulled windows. Shutters are better suited for large, full-size standard windows or French doors.

Additionally, consider the room's lighting needs. Since shutters effectively block light, they are an excellent choice for rooms where you want more darkness and privacy, such as a master bedroom or a main living room. For window types that are not ideal for functional shutters, some homeowners choose to install fixed (non-functional) shutters to maintain a consistent look across the home.

Shutters are still very common in Southern, farmhouse, and traditional-style homes, especially those in warm climates who can benefit from the increased efficiency. While modern homes and designs tend to shy away from shutters, shutters are a timeless design style that will likely be around for decades to come.

The average shutter is designed to last 20 to 25 years. Proper maintenance for the type of shutters you have is essential for helping them reach their full potential.

Plantation shutters cost an average of $2,990, making them one of the pricier shutter options. However, they offer a 75% return on your investment and are great options for boosting curb appeal and property value. Most people go for plantation shutters for their timeless, vintage look. They also provide the strongest light blocking and temperature control for your home.
