"Charlie's Tree Service contacted me promptly and came over to inspect the tree and gave me an estimate on removing the tree. The large oak tree overhang a fenced in pool area. He was able to remove the tree without damaging the fence or pool area. His crew worked quickly and efficiently and completed the job in a couple of hours. His crew hauled off the tree cuttings and smoothed out the work area."

"I contracted Mr. Burks to cut, stump, grind, and disposal of 4 pine trees. Now that Burks completed the job, I am extremely satisfied with his service. Here are all the pros working with this company: 1) Excellent communication during the quoting process and throughout the work. 2) Excellent work and value for their work. 3) Highly respectful and professional (Mr. Burks and his crew) 4) Mr. Burks worked with an adjacent business to have better access to my property. 5) Cleanliness. They left no tree debris behind. 6) Renegociated for an additional job not quoted initially. I would not only use Burks Tree Service again, but I highly recommend this business. Thank you, Mr. Burks! PS. I am not receiving compensation or a discount for this review. My review only represents my personal opinion and experience with this business."

"A huge upper section of a very tall and large pine tree crashed onto my house and USAA promptly removed it but said the main tree was not covered though it was so damaged it clearly needed to be cut down before it too fell on the house. I called Joseph and he came out quickly and provided a very reasonable estimate and promised to return the following morning to cut it down. He and Drew arrived on time, worked hard and efficiently, were very careful not to damage our property, and cleaned up so well you could hardly tell they had been here. Joseph is a 14 year Army veteran who is still serving in the Reserves who takes pride in his work, knows his stuff, and goes the extra mile to ensure your satisfaction. Call him. I know you'll be glad you did!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

For trimming trees, your best tool is a pair of pruning shears or loppers. Both options work best for branches that are under 3 inches in diameter. Trimming trees with a larger diameter may require a robust tool like a small chainsaw or a handsaw, so take into account your tree’s diameter when deciding between tools.

Dutch elm disease can’t harm humans. In fact, according to Cal Fire, bark beetles aren’t even typically dangerous to trees unless that tree is already weakened. The problem comes when Dutch elm disease kills a tree. That tree is more at risk of falling and catching fire, which can pose a serious threat.

Sudden oak death and oak wilt are different diseases. Oak wilt first shows up in tree leaves while sudden oak death affects the branches and trunk. However, as symptoms in both can overlap, it’s best to consult a professional arborist tree expert for a proper diagnosis and development of a treatment plan.

Palm trees are unique in that their roots don't grow straight down; they grow horizontally. Typically, palm tree roots go down between 12 and 36 inches deep. The roots grow far and wide from the base of the palm tree to absorb as much water and soil nutrients as possible. In addition, the horizontal roots are also very strong—keeping palm trees stable and helping them sway during storms.

If you’re planning on keeping the tree, unless the roots are invasive, there’s no need to remove them, as doing so can cause damage to the tree. If the tree has been cut down and the stump and roots are left, grinding and removing the stump can cause root decay for some species. For other species, the stump and roots will need to be removed to prevent pests, disease, and possible tree regrowth.
