"I would rate them +10 if I could. This is an incredible company. Excellent work ethics, attention to detail, recommendations, friendly workers. They've done everything we wanted and then some. We had our entire fence replaced, from wood to vinyl upgrade, had a new, larger deck built, yard cleanup. Everything is looking fantastic. Can't say enough about Joe & his crew. Would definitely recommend this company for all"

"I checked over four companies for estimates to remove two trees from a property that my company manages. Choosing Burks Tree Service was the best choice I made. Ms. Dorthy was amazing with her follow-up system and was such a pleasure speaking with her. Her customer service was part of my decision to use this company. Mr. Burks showed up on time which is rare in my business. I was so "AMAZED" at the work that I watched the entire removal of the trees. When Mr. Burks finished the job, not only did he remove the stumps, he removed every branch, cleaned the debris from the lawn and street. The neighbors in the area were so thankful that the trees were gone and the way Mr. Burks leveled the front lawn. My landlord who is in the military, couldn't believe the pictures when he saw the results. Sometimes "THANK YOU" just isn't enough. That's why I took the time to write this review. Burks Tree Service has the best price, customer service, and work ethics. I have recommended Mr. Burks to all my real estate friends. Great Job Mr. Burks."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

No. Topping a tree refers to severely cutting down all its major branches and tree in a straight line. It was once recommended for streetside deciduous trees but has fallen out of practice. Topping leads to many problems, removing so much of the tree that many trees struggle to survive and become much more vulnerable to insects and diseases. Also, it doesn’t really help tree growth as once assumed and often leads to an ugly appearance of many sprouting stems in competition to become new main branches.

Your neighbor is not in a good position to know if your trees are truly dead or pose any kind of danger. That’s why hiring an arborist or tree service expert can be such an important part of the process. If the trees are still alive and don’t pose any threat, you’re in the clear (but you may want to document and photograph everything in case events turn sour down the road).

But if a tree is visibly dead and near the property line, you should remove it to be safe. If a dead tree falls on a neighbor’s property, they may have grounds to sue for negligence. If any branches on trees have died, it’s a good idea to cut them back for similar reasons.

You’ll have to balance up the cost, the value of the tree (sentimental or otherwise), and the risk factors. An experienced arborist will help you understand whether transplanting is likely to be successful. The cost and hassle of transplanting a large, well-established tree are often not worth it, especially if the species is fast-growing and easy to source. The decision depends on the age and species of the tree, the conditions in the new site location, and how careful the company is when digging out and moving the tree.

Large, established tree branches won’t grow roots, but if you find a young tree branch that’s less than about a year old, you’ve got a shot. Put it in water or soil as soon as possible for best results. You’ll know the branch is viable if it’s about the thickness of a pencil and has some leaves or needles.

The felling notch you make before you make the final cut will determine which way the tree will fall. The cut will be in a wedge or triangle, and the tree will fall from the highest point of the triangle. You can use this, as well as the process described above, to estimate where a tree will fall.
