"Outstanding company! Can't say enough about them. They responded quickly to our request and showed up when they said they would. Corey was exceptional and so nice. The crew took two days to down a huge holly tree and big pine. We highly recommend them not only for the professional job but also the price was very reasonable. Will definitely call them in the future for any services needed!"

Customers say: Quick response

"I hired Morrissey Stump Grinding And Tree Service to tear down an old shed at my home in Camden, NC, and I couldn't be happier with the results. The crew was prompt, professional, and clearly knew what they were doing. They utilized a claw truck for the job, which made the demolition process super efficient and very impressive to watch. It’s rare to see that level of equipment and skill used so effectively. They did an amazing job and I honestly couldn't ask for better service. If you need demolition or tree work done in the Camden area, I highly recommend hiring them."

"Hilltop Tree Service did an excellent job removing a Pecan tree for us and they did exactly everything they promised to do. The job went smoothly and they showed up promptly and cleaned up the job. They removed all the limbs and remnants of the tree in a clean manner. We would definitely use their services again and would highly recommend them to others."

"I am more than pleased with the work that was done at my home! Everything had gotten out of control and had gotten so big that we could not do it alone. There was tons of work to be done in my yard. Bushes to be trimmed back, trees to be cut, grass to pulled etc. They even raked everything up & took it off for me! They went above and beyond my expectations and I highly recommend them to anyone that needs any type of yard work done! Thanks again for all your hard work and making my yard look beautiful again! We will definitely use your company again! 😊 Bob & Tanya Schup"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Yes, it can be good to remove dead branches from trees. Dead branches can lead to rot in other areas of the tree. They can also cause damage if they fall on a house, shed, fence, car, pool, or other structure or property. However, it’s important that dead branch removal is done safely. If the branch is high in a tree or requires a lift or ladder to access, consider calling a professional tree removal company, as they will have the experience and equipment to do the job safely.

Dutch elm disease can’t harm humans. In fact, according to Cal Fire, bark beetles aren’t even typically dangerous to trees unless that tree is already weakened. The problem comes when Dutch elm disease kills a tree. That tree is more at risk of falling and catching fire, which can pose a serious threat.

We don’t recommend DIY tree trimming for a few different reasons. First, the tools required to trim a tree can be costly, up to $1,100 or more, for the ladders and specialized saws needed.

Safety is another concern, especially when working with more mature trees. As a guideline, you should only DIY tree trimming when branches are less than two inches in diameter. Any more, and the safety risk becomes too high, which could lead to catastrophe. For this job, it’s safest to let a tree-trimming professional assess the work needed.

Hiring an arborist costs around $900 on average, with prices ranging from $250 to $2,500 or more. Some arborists charge an hourly rate, typically between $100 and $350 per hour. The final cost depends on several factors, including the type of work, the number of trees, accessibility, and whether you hire an independent arborist or a larger tree service company. When hiring, you should also consider their experience and insurance coverage.

Below are some estimated costs for common arborist jobs:

  • Small tree removal: $300 to $500

  • Large tree removal: $500 to $2,000 or more

  • Tree health assessment: $150

  • Trimming a small tree: $75 to $200

  • Trimming a large tree: $150 to $400

  • Dealing with invasive species: $150 to $1,000 or more

A chainsaw is the best tool to cut down a tree, but you may also use a handsaw or ax. You may also want to use a lopper or pole saw to remove limbs before cutting down the tree. Wear chainsaw chaps and protective gear, including eyewear and earplugs if you use a chainsaw. Again, if you’re unsure about how to use this tool, this project may be one to skip.
