Customers say: Quick response

"I hired Morrissey Stump Grinding And Tree Service to tear down an old shed at my home in Camden, NC, and I couldn't be happier with the results. The crew was prompt, professional, and clearly knew what they were doing. They utilized a claw truck for the job, which made the demolition process super efficient and very impressive to watch. It’s rare to see that level of equipment and skill used so effectively. They did an amazing job and I honestly couldn't ask for better service. If you need demolition or tree work done in the Camden area, I highly recommend hiring them."

"Hilltop Tree Service did a great job trimming our River Birch that had branches hanging over our roof and gutters. Jose and Claudette came to our house within a few hours of my placing the request for quotes on Angi.com. They looked at our situation and gave us a quote right away and said that they could do the work within a few days. We were very thankful because we needed work done on the roof and gutters, and the first necessary step was to get rid of the branches hanging in the way. I told my neighbor that they were available, and since he had been waiting for a different tree company for months without them ever showing up to do the work, he also got a quote from Hilltop Tree Service, and they decided to do the work on both our yards on the same day. So it worked out well for us and for Hilltop Tree Service since they could make one trip to do both our tree trimming. They called on Sunday to say that they could come the next day, Monday. And remember that we only got the quote from them on Friday! They arrived in the afternoon and the crew was made up of Hector, Josue, and Byron. After getting the necessary gear from Jose, the owner, they did the work promptly. Jose made sure that I was satisfied with the results, and he was happy to trim one more branch to make me happy, which I appreciated. It was important to me to get the branches at least six feet away from the house. The crew also chopped the branches into shorter lengths and carried them to the bottom of our slope because we wanted to limit erosion on our slope in the backyard. Overall, we are very happy with the work that the crew did and when we need more tree services, we will call them. It is such a relief to have the work done so quickly and by such nice people. Thank you to Jose and Claudette and the entire crew for your work on our yard."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Homeowners are usually not responsible for trees that fall on power lines. Power companies usually have utility easements around power lines, which give them the responsibility to maintain any trees within about 15 to 20 feet of the lines.

Burning a tree stump can be effective, but it comes with safety considerations and isn’t always best for every situation. It's essential to check local regulations and assess the safety risks involved. Stumps that are near wooden structures or other non-moveable flammable objects aren’t good candidates for burning due to the risk of the fire spreading. Alternatives like grinding or a DIY stump rotting project might be safer and quicker for getting the job done.

Although the terms tree trimming and tree pruning are used interchangeably, they are very different types of tree maintenance. Tree trimming involves enhancing the appearance of your tree by removing unruly branches, providing your tree with ample sunlight and nutrients and prevents unsightly overgrowth.

Tree pruning helps keep your trees disease-free. This process removes unhealthy growths, dead branches, and other unhealthy parts of the tree. It’s more common for deciduous and ornamental trees but not so common for evergreen trees. To determine which method you need, discuss it with a tree trimming specialist.

If you aren’t sure what you’re doing, be very careful when cutting mature tree roots (roots larger than 2 inches). Root cutting and pruning can affect both a tree’s stability and its ability to nourish itself. Issues during root cutting can result in damage or injury.

It’s recommended you call in a pro to help, unless it’s a very small tree and you aren’t worried about the prospect of losing the tree.

If you don’t cut down a dead, dying, or diseased tree, it can become a nesting place for pests like mosquitos, bees, beetles, wasps, fly larvae, and more. Some pests will live in the tree, while others will feed off the decaying wood. Unhealthy trees are also more likely to fall over, potentially injuring people and causing damage to your property.
