"Jamie came and-- - inspected the fireplace - pointed out several positive things about its condition - invited us to use his mirror and flashlight to peer up into the chimney - taught me to discern whether the damper is open or closed (I always found it difficult to determine this) - patiently walked me through the process of opening / closing the damper several times (I’d never done this before) - and pronounced our chimney free of dirt and pollutants. It didn’t need cleaning after all Jamie didn’t charged us a penny for his service call -- but we would have gladly paid for all the time and help he gave us. As he packed up his drop cloth and tools, we assured him he would be our chimney sweep the next time we needed service. He then gave us a special magnetized business card for the refrigerator. It had a dedicated place to write in today’s service date -- a small detail, yes, but such a practical one. Now I’ll always know when our last cleaning was!
