"I got a home inspection to prepare for selling my home, and I wasn't expecting them to find so many things I overlooked every day. They included thermal images with my very thorough inspection report. They made it easy for me to prioritize repairs and make selling my home so much smoother. Definitely recommend!"

"We had a radon test done on our new home and were pleased with the scheduling, the testing, and the prompt receipt of the follow-up report. The price appears to be the standard charge for this test."

"George was not only on time but stuck around while we waited to here back from the my realtor (who had to call the sellers' realtor who then needed to call the seller) to ask questions and get answers before the inspection could really be started. He was personable, knowledgeable and very, very, very thorough. His report was finished in less than one business day; included detailed remarks, recommendations for action and pictures to back everything up. George's prices are in line with the other quotes that I got and he was able to do the radon testing and has an insect inspection company that he works with; all products needed are right there with one call to Highland Home Inspectors!!! He truly couldn't have made this process any easier!"

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

You can vent radon out of your house sometimes by simply opening a window, but it won’t remove the source, and will likely rise above recommended levels quickly. A professional will be needed to assess your home, and determine the best strategy for radon removal. Active radon sump pumps and soil depressurization systems are often used to forcefully vent the radon from your home.

The average radon mitigation system uses about 876 kWh of electricity per year, although the exact amount of electricity used will vary depending on the size of the radon fan. Once the system is installed, the annual increase to your energy bill could range from $30 to $300 per year, again depending on the size of the fan.

Many radon fans carry a five-year manufacturer's warranty. That said, your radon fan should last between five and ten years. Regular inspections will ensure the fan is operating properly. Unusual or exceptional noise coming from the fan or indications on your manometer or system monitor can immediately tell you that something is amiss.

Long-term exposure increases lung cancer risks. Prolonged homestay individuals and smokers encounter heightened vulnerability and exposure concerns.

A homeowner can install a radon mitigation system on their own. But it’s a challenging DIY that requires a lot of knowledge about radon mitigation as well as familiarity with local regulations. You do not want to risk an improper installation that leaves the system unable to detect radon or gives it a shortened life span. Relying on a professional is the surest way to guarantee a successful installation.
