54 years of experience

I have been in the plumbing trade for 43 years. I know every phase of plumbing. I hold a North Carolina P-1 unlimited license #29080, and am fully insured. My company is a one man show. I do all of the work I quote with special attention to the plumbing code. Call with confidence for any work you may need. Special discounts for Senior Citizens, Military &.Angie's List members!

"I called and spoke with the owner within 30 minutes, after hours on a holiday (Memorial Day) weekend. Kenny Bennett was very kind and responsive to our needs. He made every effort to assess the problem and devise a solution. Before noon the following day, a new water heater was installed in our condo. He showed genuine concern for our situation, as our daughter was down with some friends for a weekend in New Bern. It could have been a rough time for them were it not for Kenny's help. Just can't thank him enough for his service to our family. A man of integrity."

Gas Logs questions, answered by experts

If you sense a gas leak or are upgrading your appliances, it’s best to hire a gas engineer to disconnect the gas stove for you and conduct any other necessary inspections and repairs. While it is easy to disconnect the gas stove yourself, you may not be qualified to complete what needs to be done next. Gas is also harmful to the human body. Therefore, a trained professional is more suitable to handle any gas-related problems.

Propane is more cost-efficient than natural gas on a per-unit basis because it produces twice as much heat energy as an equivalent amount of natural gas. But propane is not ideal if you already have a gas line installed. The best choice for your home depends on the efficiency of your appliances and the amount of installation required of your fuel choice.

In most cases, a gas stove should be installed by a licensed plumber. Connecting gas appliances carries many risks, chief among them a fatal gas leak. If your home is already set up with the proper gas hookups, you may be able to DIY the installation (or save money by hiring a local handyperson or basic appliance installer near you rather than a plumber). If you’re ever in doubt, however, we recommend going with a professional master plumber.

The effect a gas fireplace has on your gas bill will depend on how often you use it, the size of the rooms you’re heating with it, and the BTUs of the fireplace itself, but generally speaking, it should only cost a few cents an hour to run it when it’s on. It will consume minimal energy when it’s “off” if you have a pilot light running constantly, but some modern gas fireplaces don’t require a constant pilot light.

Having gas appliances in your home can be convenient—you benefit from faster water heating, more efficient clothes drying, and more affordable home heating. However, you need to be aware of the signs of a gas leak so that you and your family can take precautions to be safe around these versatile appliances.

Signs of a gas leak include:

  • Hissing sounds

  • Rotten egg smell

  • Higher than usual gas usage

  • Physical symptoms, such as headaches, dizziness, and nausea
