"Got a great deal on equipment through Angies List. Tech was very helpful and took the time to answer questions and customize package to best meet our security needs."
"That's the name I am vaguely familiar with; it's a home security company that is license to ADT franchise or dealer if I am correct. They were very good. They were prompt; they were quality. The individuals move their business. They were very timely and it was a good experience."
"First the good: The up front cost cant be beat since all of the sensors and control panel were no cost to cover 20 doors and windows. Installation was pretty straight forward and the phone reps were fairly knowledgeable and professional. I added a couple features like an extra key pad, siren and glass break sensors that cost aprox $350. The extras were a little pricey but compared to the $2000 another provided quoted, it was still a deal. The control panel is cellular based so cutting your phone lines will not effect the alarm. Now the not so good: The quality of the sensors has not been very good. I have had 2 DOA when the packages arrived new and 2 failed within several days. When I contacted Protect America they were very nice about sending me new ones, but it took weeks and a couple calls before I saw the first replacements. The second set of replacements that arrived for the failed units ended up being the wrong sensors. Their shipping department does not seem to have good quality control. The next very annoying element is the wait time on the phone when you are trying to get anything set up. I spent a couple hours on hold working through the set up the first time and at least an hour the second time when I installed the replacement sensors. Some cautions; make sure you hide the main control panel because if an intruder disables it before the alarm has sounded for 60 seconds, the police may not be notified. Also they only call to check if everything is ok if the alarm is not canceled for 60 seconds. So you can not be sure if the signal is getting through. Monthly monitoring fee is high, but since the system was intially free, even after 3 years it is still the cheaper route. Now that I have the equipment, once our contract is expired I will find a different alarm provider that responds to every alarm. "

"OK first of all I never write reviews, dont have the time. However, the experience I had was amazing. I mean from when they answered the phone I felt comfortable. No high pressure, very straight forward salesperson. I called two other companies and both tried to upsell me from what they advertised. I am so happy I called Skycover! They did not try to upsell me. I purchased exactly what was advertised and saved even more money than I thought. I got a video camera for free with the system! I have a home office and now I can see what my assistant is doing from anywhere I travel in the world and I frequently travel to China for work. The system arrived to my door in a beautiful box and I will admit was concerned about setting it up, but it was plug and play just like the salesperson said. It took me less than 30 minutes in total and was super simple. I control everything from my phone. This is the greatest thing I have done in a long time, I would recommend this product and company to anyone I know! "

"Choice seems a bit shady. They don't show you anything on the website regarding what's offered. And in 24 hrs I immediately began front marketing calls about home security. It would be helpful as A MEMBER to have an the deals I'm eligible for on the website but nope. Bare bones website. And a circular repetitive aggressive sales. I say no the response is well you have to have a credit card? Yes yes I do and if I had wanted to use it I would have began my service with using a credit card. I choose to pay cash because that's what I wanted to do. I tell them my insurance doesn't give me a discount on having a monitored security system and I get argued with. Trust me when I say that I've found every single form of saving money possibly known to man and take advantage of every opportunity I get to do so. By the end of my 30 min marketing assault I requested to be removed from there marketing list and to have my card removed from my account. They store everything and are willing at the push off a button to charge you for what they are selling. How can you have a locked in 3 year price point that never ends. If it's only 3 years then it ends at 3 years. If there price never changes then there's no need to mention the 3 years. I mean these fast talking used car sales tactics are ridiculous and I needed a shower after speaking to them. Cause I'm sure I've been taken advantage of."
"Our American Home shield warranty took care of the dishwasher repair, garage door repair, but each time they have to come back. The company service is okay, if I know another company that had a better service than them I would be with that service. I would use them in the future only because I don't have anybody else."
"I would say that I wasn't really impressed with it. There were certain things about the service that I wasn't aware of like half the channels, you have to pay money to see those. It's a pay-per-view basically and the guy wasn't all that friendly when he came to the door. He seemed kind of put out, basically. It's like he just didn't want to be there so my first impression wasn't very good."
A home security system can be a worthwhile investment for several reasons. Financially, it may qualify you for a discount of up to 20% on your home insurance premiums, which can help offset the initial setup costs and any ongoing monitoring or subscription fees. For many, the primary benefit is the peace of mind that comes with enhanced security, especially for those living in areas with higher crime rates. Ultimately, whether a system is worth it depends on your personal preferences, the value of the assets you wish to protect, and your overall safety concerns.
The cost of home automation averages around $1,000, with most projects falling between $200 and $2,000. The total cost depends on several factors, including the level of automation, brand, system features, home size, and location. For a DIY approach, basic home automation technology can cost between $100 and $500, though the scope and interaction between products may be limited. High-end, all-inclusive systems for larger homes can cost anywhere from $10,000 to $150,000, especially when they include smart appliances like refrigerators and dishwashers that require extensive wiring. Additional costs, such as subscriptions for maintenance services, can also impact the total price. It's often helpful to set a budget and consult with an expert to determine the best options for your home.
Smart deadbolts are a worthwhile investment for homeowners seeking more convenience, flexibility, and advanced features than a traditional deadbolt can provide. While a strong conventional deadbolt offers sufficient security for most, smart deadbolts provide significant upgrades.
Key benefits include keyless entry via smartphone, keypads, or biometric sensors, and the ability to lock or unlock your door remotely. You can also manage access for guests by creating temporary codes, eliminating the need for physical keys and the risk of them being lost or duplicated. Many models integrate with smart home systems and offer features like automatic locking, entry-exit monitoring, and tamper alerts with encryption for enhanced security.
However, there are downsides to consider. Smart deadbolts are more expensive than their traditional counterparts and rely on batteries and wireless networks to function. This dependency introduces potential vulnerabilities, such as hacking by skilled intruders and privacy concerns. Installation can also be more complex. Despite these drawbacks, the added layer of convenience and protection makes them a compelling option for many.
A security camera company will be able to advise you on where to position the cameras, ensure all of the equipment is set up properly, and do all of the installations. They’ll take factors into consideration that a non-professional might not automatically consider, like obstacles that could block a potential trespasser from the camera or how lighting may obstruct the view.
Yes, you should always change your locks after buying a house. Do so as soon as possible after you move in. Otherwise, you won’t know who has working keys to the property, whether they’re spare keys or otherwise. If an intruder gains access to your house with a key, it may not be covered under your homeowners insurance.
