"I was told by another company that they no longer serviced the pellet stove that I had. I thought it was gonna have to buy a new one. So I called American heating and cooling and refrigeration. They came out less than a week. Had to order the part and came back and installed it. Aaron did an awesome job. It was thorough. "We have used Hotchkiss Heating & Air multiple times for multiple services. We have always been given professional, honest, accurate assessment and recommendations. Once we had a furnace issue, we got one previous estimate before having having Hotchkiss give a quote. The previous company insisted that our only option was to.completely replace our entire furnace, which was going to cost over $3000. Also, we would have to go without a furnace for up to a week, while we waited for the replacement to come. In the interim, we contacted Hotchkiss, who immediately sent an employee right over to see if they would be able to replace it quicker. The technician easily determined that our furnace did NOT need to be replaced at all. In fact, it was a simple solution replacing a small part. They were able to change out the part, On the spot, And our total bill came to $75. Since that day, we have never considered contacting any other businnes for our heating and air needs. We are customers of Hotchkiss Heating & Air as long as we reside in their service area. We are always consistently, impressed by all aspects of our dealings with them. They are professional, respond very rapidly, and we know we can always trust that they dont overcharge us or give us inaccurate assessments of our issues. You only need to repoint a chimney every 30 or more years, with some repointing jobs only necessary after several decades. If your chimney’s brickwork looks worn out or crumbly, hire a pro to inspect and repoint the chimney to improve its strength and waterproofing for many years to come.

The short answer is yes, but the longer answer is more complex. Unless the fireplace is ventless by design, you’ll need some type of exhaust pipe system to safely send fumes and other harmful byproducts out of the house. Even then, ventless fireplaces are not always permitted because they do keep the byproducts inside of your house. Ventless fireplaces are safest when installed in spaces that are themselves well-ventilated, like large rooms with lots of windows.

DIY is not recommended due to safety and venting requirements. Professional installation ensures proper operation and compliance with codes.

You should not use Windex or any other ammonia-based glass cleaners when cleaning the glass doors or glass front panel of a gas fireplace. To stop it, you need to replace the air your fireplace draws out through the chimney, so open a window to try and increase the airflow. Sometimes turning on a kitchen or bathroom exhaust fan can help, but they could also be the cause of the backdraft depending on the air pressure inside your home. You may need to install a makeup air system (MUAS) or chimney fan.
