"Environment Masters did an excellent job providing me with a new HVAC system. I originally called them for a tuneup. The technician showed me pictures of the repairs that would need to be done. I was put in contact with a sales rep who walked me through potential quality new options for my house. Both employees were clear about the issues but did not pressure me into a decision. I was able to make an informed decision that was best for my family. I chose to have a new system installed. All installation technicians worked diligently and respectfully. The HVAC system looks well put together. Even small details were completed-all trash was cleaned up, pipes were wrapped, and wires were neatly run. They even dropped a water detector into my water heater drain pan beside the HVAC unit at no extra cost to me! I’m a handyman and have to complete small details like this often. I see and repair when people cut corners. Environment Masters did not cut corners. Well Done!"

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Quality plumbing requires properly supported and strapped pipes in crawl spaces to withstand local soil shifting. Ensure all exterior wall penetrations are completely sealed against moisture and pests. Drain lines must have the correct slope to function properly. A thorough professional in Mississippi will also conduct a pressure test on supply lines and a flow test on drain lines before closing up walls or backfilling any trenches.

Helpful?

The local soil conditions in Vicksburg add major challenges to plumbing projects. Expansive clay and alluvial soils cause significant shifting, which stresses underground pipes and slab foundations. Additionally, historic homes built before 1950 feature original cast iron or galvanized steel pipes that require special handling. High water tables near the Mississippi River also complicate trenching and underground repairs. A local professional will navigate these unique regional challenges safely.

Helpful?

Document the year your home was built to help professionals identify your pipe materials. Note whether your property uses the city sewer or a private septic system. Record the location of your main shutoff valve and whether you have a crawl space, slab, or basement. Finally, track when your plumbing symptoms started and if they worsen during high Mississippi River stages or heavy MS rainstorms.

Helpful?

Plumbing repairs frequently impact other household systems in Vicksburg. Work near air handlers disrupts HVAC condensate drainage, causing moisture issues during humid summers. Trenching for underground pipes risks undermining pier-and-beam foundations, while saw-cutting impacts slab integrity. Always identify natural gas lines before cutting or digging. Protect your home by ensuring professionals evaluate electrical clearances around water heaters and check vapor barriers in your crawl space.

Helpful?

Start by locating your main water shutoff valve, located in a crawl space or near the street in older Vicksburg homes. During MS winter freeze warnings, open exterior cabinet doors and allow faucets to drip to prevent bursts. Address slow drains with a plunger or snake rather than chemical treatments, which damage older cast iron pipes. Leave the city water meter alone, as this requires municipal personnel.
