"

I originally called ADT Security to set up a system in my home and was sub contracted out to Protect Your Home which is but ISN'T ADT. I greatly feel like I was rushed through my phone call and things were not clearly explained. My home owners insurance actually went up! USAA is supposed to get a discount with ADT however since it was subcontracted out without my realization I will not be receiving a discount on my monthly bill. They push PULSE like nothing else and make you feel like you are basically under attack. "What if the phone lines are cut?"  I wasn't aware when I had my install done that I would be paying about $500 for the equipment till after it had been put on. I am overall frustrated beyond belief thinking here I had security done for the betterment of my home insurance and that because I was "using" a company USAA recommends I was going to be getting a great deal and it would be a win win situation. Little did I know I would feel like I had been duped and double talked. I am not a happy customer at all. That said the install guy was great and nice I would just make sure YOU really NEED the security as I have found it may not be all it is cracked up to be and then you are stuck in a contract and hundreds of dollars invested.

"They system was installed for the basic, but anything that you wanted needed to be higher upgraded require alot of extra money for every upgrade.
The 36.99 monthly fee was for only if your system is connected to a landline. I didnnt notice that they charge me $44.99 until my 1st month fee. Thats when I was told that they charge $44.99 because the alram was connected to my cable line instead. I was unaware of the different charges. When tec came out he didnt show up to fix the corrected. Had to call the main company for the no show. So they schedule another appointment and offered 2 window alarms to fix the correction but my bill still is $44.99. Default is that since I didnt have extra money to upgrade to the Pulse, you dont know if you turn the alarm to your house properly. I called the 800 number and they cant tell either!

Home Security Systems questions, answered by experts

Strike plates and security plates are the same thing, but there are strike plates that offer more security than others. For the highest security, look for plates made of heavy-duty steel, reinforced strike plates thicker than regular ones, and extended strike plates. It’s much harder to break into a door with these strike plates because they hold up better to force from attempted entry.

Yes, it’s possible a burglar can get through a deadbolt. Some types of deadbolts are harder for an intruder to get through, though. For example, a single-cylinder lock only requires breaking a window nearby and simply turning it. While other locks, such as a double-cylinder lock, may offer greater protection and make it harder for an intruder, no deadbolt is 100 percent effective.

This is the topic of much debate, though there is no “better,” as it depends on personal preferences. Some of the components of a wireless system keep working when the power goes out, as they are battery-powered. On the other hand, a wireless system typically connects to your modem and router. Wired systems use landlines to communicate, which never go out on their own unless they’re physically cut.

Yes, keyless locks can deter burglars, mostly because they boost security and offer advanced features. Most models allow for unique codes or temporary access, making it harder for intruders to break in. Many of these smart locks even alert you if someone tries to tamper with them. However, you need to remember that while they provide an added layer of protection, no lock is completely foolproof. Pairing these locks with good security habits—like proper lighting and surveillance cameras—creates a strong defense to help stop intruders in their tracks.

Your best bet is to install a bracket that secures to the bottom of the unit and the side of your house. You should still secure the AC unit in the open window using some of the other methods already listed, but a bracket is best to ensure that it stays put—both during operation and in case of an attempted theft.
