"I had this company replace a 12 step staircase and landing off my sunroom at the back of my home. They did an outstanding job very professional. It was very apparent that the owner is a professional carpenter with years of experience his communication about the project. The materials being gonna be used was excellent from the initial email telephone calls contract could not have asked for a smoother project to get completed in a timely fashion. He checked in with me daily about the projects progress and discussed options before making his own decision but any suggestion he would make was perfect for the job at the end of each day he took the time to clear up the debris from my property and take it away. I would say a true professional in every aspect of being a great carpenter as a plus he’s also a very nice person which is a refreshing change. I strongly recommend this company for any carpentry project. You might be thinking of doing."

"Very well! So much of the wood on our porch needed to be replaced and he was very helpful in knowing and getting what we needed to finish the project. He kept us informed on the progress and asked our opinion on how we wanted things to look. All the work was done in a few days and it all turned out looking great!"

"Matt is fantastic! I hired him to do some carpentry work. I know nothing about such things, and he made sure to explain everything—what he recommended, different things he could do, why he was doing certain things—and he included me in every step of the process. In addition, he is very responsive and communicates really well and PROMPTLY! He takes his work seriously, and it shows. I’ll definitely be hiring him again, and I highly recommend him!"

Small jobs welcome

"Excellent. I called 6 places and only Mr Handyman would help. The office staff was so helpful and worked to get us help. The repairman that came out was very professional and knowledgeable. As importantly he was very considerate of my elderly father. Wonderful service."

"JNM Home Improvement does excellent work. When I called, I had a quick call back & meeting set up with owner Jesse Delarosa. We had a rather elaborate but sagging & rotting deck that needed reinforcement and in some places reconstruction. We didn’t want to go through the expense of replacing the entire deck. Jesse visited the house, described a plan that would rebuild the deck to safety code. He had the plan in writing to us that evening and got the job done in a little less than a week. Jesse and his crew are highly professional, polite, communicative and no surprises at the end of the project. I would highly recommend JNM Home Improvement for any project at home or at my business. "Bradan did a fantastic job installing a new exterior door. (We are redesigning our garage and needed a man door) and putting in vinyl steps on both sides of the door. He completed ahead of schedule and his prices were extremely reasonable. I would definitely recommend him for any project you have. I will definitely be using him again! 100% satisfied."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Begin by analyzing the blueprints and gathering the proper materials before framing a house. With the prep stages behind you, begin by framing the floor of a house on the newly set foundation. Exterior and interior walls come next, along with rough openings for doors and windows. Contractors will then add ceiling and roof rafters to finish things off.

Modern brick houses are really stick-built homes with a brick facade for aesthetic purposes only, so most have framing. With genuine brick construction, most homeowners install furring strips over the interior of the brick and then install drywall over those strips to cover the brick wall, so they don’t have traditional framing.

Stick frames, metal frames, or prefabricated concrete frames are included in framing a house, along with creating the framework and space for windows, doors, and entryways. Other aspects of developing a home—like drywall, insulation, windows, doors, and more—are not included in the cost to frame a house.

Bump-out additions can extend anywhere from 2 to 15 feet from an existing room. The right size will depend on how you plan to use the new space. For a cantilever bump-out, which doesn't require additional foundation support, the limit is typically 24 inches (2 feet). If a footing and foundation are part of the project, a bump-out can be much larger, even encompassing a whole room. It's also important to remember that many residential properties have limits on the total house size relative to the lot size.

The primary parts of a house that need framing during construction are floors, exterior walls, interior walls, and the roof. The framing in these areas provides the skeleton for adding other materials over the top. With walls, for example, contractors can hang drywall over the interior walls and siding over the outside of the exterior walls. Proper framing ensures a sturdy house that is built to last.
