"We started our journey with FRS a year ago in anticipating closing on our new home. Joe Bevins came out and gave us a quote at that time on what was needing to be done. Long story short, took a year to straighten out some seller titling issues and close on the house. Joe checked in through the process and when we could move forward, FRS honored the original quote from a year ago. Greg Harvie and his team were professional, quick, and communicative with us throughout the process. Joe has followed up after to ensure all is well and we are dry and snug. They've made our renovation process much easier overall. I highly recommend both this inspector and foundation team - they've offered ethical and excellent service above and beyond the call of duty. Thanks guys!"

Hello,\nI’m Brian and have been an electrician for 35 years and over the years I have learned other trades and I just understand building and mechanical items and how they work. That promotes the way I take things apart and how they go back together. I look forward to working with you to start and/or complete unfinished projects.

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

Window screens are available in several standard sizes. Common dimensions include 24 to 36 inches wide by 36 to 48 inches tall, as well as sizes like 18 by 14 inches and 20 by 20 inches. These often correspond to standard window sizes, such as 2 feet wide by 3 feet tall or 4 feet wide by 6 feet tall. Screens are also sold in replacement rolls to accommodate various dimensions. It is always best to measure your windows for accuracy before a repair or replacement. If your windows are a non-standard size, you will likely need to order custom screens, which can increase the cost. However, a screen does not necessarily have to fit the entire window, so you may be able to use a standard-size screen even if your window is slightly larger.

It’s possible to make minor screen repairs yourself using a waterproof adhesive for small tears or a screen patch kit for larger tears and holes. However, it’s usually a better option to call in a professional window technician. It’s very easy to use too much waterproof glue, resulting in a messy appearance that might demand a full replacement anyway. A screen repair technician will not only be able to carry out clean repairs and patches that aren’t obvious, but they can also let you know if replacing your screen is a more cost-effective option.

There are different types of screen materials available when purchasing a screen door, but the two main options are fiberglass and aluminum. Fiberglass is lightweight and affordable, but can stretch out, so it needs to be replaced more often. Aluminum has a higher upfront cost, but is more sturdy. Aluminum can be more difficult to install, even if you know how to replace screen door mesh.

A screened-in porch requires maintenance to keep the screens clean and in good shape, and you may have to do some screen repair or replacement from time to time. A screen porch isn’t an all-season porch, so the weather can get in, including wind and rain.

Awning windows can have screens, but it depends on your manufacturer. If your awning window does have a screen, it will be on the interior side so it doesn’t get in the way when you crank the window open. Having the screen on the inner part of the window also makes it easier to clean from inside your home.
