"I have the windows in my front bedroom face west and I get a lot heat from the sun in that room so I had them come out and Midwest Window Tinting showed me the different types of film and I thought their price was reasonable so I had them install it. One of things they told me was if there was any problems with the window cracking that it was covered under warranty and sure enough over the winter one of the windows did crack and they said they had more of a problem with that with this winter than they have had in any past winters and it was because of the harshness of the winter we had but they came out promptly to evaluate it. It was completely covered under warranty and they ordered the window and the window is scheduled to be installed tomorrow. Different company is doing the installation they contract that out with a company that actually does windows and then I have to schedule to have them came back out and tint the new window but I felt they responded promptly to the warranty call. I did not feel like I got any sort of runaround. Some companies do not want to deal with things when they got to fix something and I did not feel any of that with them. We got the appointment scheduled. He said he would be calling the other company and then they came out and measured the window. So far that whole process has gone well and I am very happy with tint that is on the windows. It has really cut down on the amount of heat in this room. It makes it much more pleasant in here in the afternoons in the summertime. I have recommended them to other people."

"I canâ t express how satisfied I am with my windows and sliding door after the superior job completed by St. Louis Window Tinting. To say they are excellent is an understatement! But they are!!! It started with our sales consultant (Kathy), who took the time to explain the differences between products and the value each product would add. She scheduled us for the installation that day. The installation team Ed and Bob, weâ re excellent! They are very professional and knowledgeable. They answered all of my questions. They even took extra care to protect our home and did an amazing job!! Thank you St. Louis Window Tinting everything looks incredible! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ST. LOUIS WINDOW TINTING!!!!"

Windows questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can install a bay window in an existing house. You’ll need to have a structural engineer draw up plans to add the necessary support to your exterior load-bearing walls and a general contractor to make the changes to the framing around the new wall opening. This will cost an average of $3,000. After that work is done, a window installer can set the new bay window in place.

Whether you need a permit to install a bay window depends on the project's scope. Replacing an existing bay window typically does not require a permit. However, if you are adding a new bay window, requirements can vary. Adding a new bay window to the front of your house usually requires a building permit, while adding one to the side or back of your house often does not. It's always best to check with your local municipality to confirm the specific requirements in your area. Additionally, if you live in a historic district, you should consult your neighborhood association to ensure your project complies with their construction guidelines. If you're unsure about the process, a professional can provide guidance.

The visibility through tinted house windows depends on the lighting. During the day, when it is brighter outside, privacy film prevents people from seeing into your home. However, this effect reverses at night. If you have lights on inside, it becomes brighter indoors than outdoors, allowing people to see inside. To optimize privacy, you can select from various shades of film, ranging from lighter to darker, which affects how much is visible from the outside.

Costs depend on hardware type, labor rates, and the extent of the repair.

Impact windows can last between 10 and 40 years, depending on how much wear and tear they receive. This is roughly within the range for standard windows; standard windows tend to last between 15 and 50 years. You can extend your windows’ lifespans by performing regular maintenance on them and ensuring they are installed correctly.
