"I contracted with American Construction and Remodeling for a basement finishing project. The project involved moving the bathroom plumbing to a new location, installing a new window, and finishing about 1500 square feet. I talked with 4 companies to get an estimate and American Construction not only gave me the cheapest quote but was also the most responsive from the very beginning. I signed with them and the project went great. Communication was excellent. Every day I knew what was going on that day and planned for the week. Their work is top notch. Dave, the owner, is very detail oriented and will make make sure ever thing is addressed nomatter how minor. Dave was also very helpful advising me on fixtures. I am very happy with the final result. I have more renovation work planned and American Construction and Remodeling will be the only company I work with from here on out."

"We contracted Casey Construction for a master bathroom remodel that gutted it to the studs but left the same footprint--something that we would typically do ourselves but didn't have time for now--I call this out, because we're picky especially when it comes to quality. I didn't have a complete design planned out, but knew I didn't want a cookie-cutter remodel, so beyond the remodel construction, Julie Casey helped me come up with an up to date, attractive design with our stated budget that will hold up over time. The Casey's and the onsite crew were easy to work with from the beginning, always professional and we never had any concerns leaving the crew alone if we weren't home. Of course, I asked for changes as the work was being done, and the Caseys always provided quotes and alternatives up front so I could decide if/how we wanted to proceed. Even with our changes, they finished the project just one week past their original estimate but this was based on reset expectations. We're super happy with the results and workmanship, something we could tell everyone with the Casey team also took pride in. We love our new space! We have other updates in the future and will definitely be using them for these."

"I chose Guffey Construction due to the reviews on HomeAdvisor. I had four windows replaced and a basement remodel done. I thought Alan offered me a fair price to do the project. Alan delivered on eveything he said he would do and I will use him again on my next remodel project."

Remodel Design questions, answered by experts

It usually takes around four to six months to build and install a modular home, although your timeline could go up to around eight months if there are delays in the manufacturing or permitting process. Heavy site preparation and foundation pouring can extend that timeline if you need them, as can customizations you want for your modular home. Your modular home company should be able to provide an estimate for the construction timeline before you sign any contracts or agree to any work.

How long it takes to build an in-law suite will vary by type. The time it takes to build an addition will typically be less than for completely new construction. Expect to spend about two months if you convert a basement, attic, or other existing room in your home. New structures can take up to five months, plus up to two months to receive the required permits.

You can draw your own house plans using three-dimensional modeling software, but in most cases, you’ll need an architect to draw up the final plans. Architects understand local building regulations and requirements, so their plans will be necessary for getting permits approved, and they’ll also ensure your home is structurally sound. DIY house plans can be a good place to start to help visualize your project, but you should always defer to a professional before trying to proceed with the project.

Yes, custom designs match existing structural and aesthetic themes.

While you will always work with a team of professionals at some point during your home build, homeowners with experience can take on some part of the process. Manage the initial brainstorm, brief writeup, and floor layout phase with minimal assistance before contacting a general contractor. And while you can purchase stock blueprints for some home designs, it's always best to speak with professionals when choosing one ideal for your property.
