"Absolutely amazing work. He came over listened to my ideas I was wanting to do in my basement and ran with it. I couldn?t be happy with how things turned out. "Anchor Contracting came out immediately and gave me a very fair bid to redo a deck and siding that had been damaged by a fire and was unsafe. The work they did was excellent, the price was right and was done exactly on time. The owner, Sean Ichrist, was courteous and professional. After the work was completed, all areas were cleaned of debris. His bid and final bill were exactly the same. As a property manager of a large condo complex, it is wonderful to deal with the honesty and professionalism that Anchor Contracting and Sean bring to the job. I look forward to working with Anchor again."

"Amanda was really very good!  At first I was very skeptical, thinking why did I pay money to just speak with someone on the phone about my kitchen remodel project... but after just a few minutes of her addressing some of the issues/questions I emailed to her earlier, I knew it was worth it.  It was very clear that she knew her business and she gave me several ideas that I had not even thought about.  I told her that I would definitely recommend her to friends and I will very likely use her again myself for my next home project!

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Roughing in and connecting utilities are the hardest parts of finishing a basement, and they’re the parts we typically don’t recommend doing as a DIY project. Unfortunately, your finishing timeline can be extended by weeks while you wait for contractors and inspectors to install electrical wiring, plumbing lines, and heating/cooling equipment and carry out inspections.

It is generally more affordable to finish a basement than an attic, though it ultimately depends on how you plan to use the space. The average cost to finish a basement ranges from $7 to $23 per square foot, while attic renovation costs $30 to $60 per square foot. However, a simple attic conversion to a storage space will cost significantly less.

While bathrooms and kitchens are nearly equal in terms of renovation difficulty, kitchens are the most challenging. Kitchen design, layout, electrical, and plumbing needs all depend on each other for the success of the entire project, and mistakes early in the project can cause trouble later on.

When considering finishing your basement, take into account a few pros and cons:

Pros

  • Can increase the value of your home

  • Separate space from the rest of the house

  • Customize and personalize the basement to suit your needs and style

  • Increase the amount of living space in your home

Cons

  • May not regain enough value to cover the cost of finishing

  • Lack of natural light if it’s below ground level

  • Moisture or flooding can cause costly damage

  • Installing plumbing and electrical can be messy and costly

While framing a basement is not as difficult as finishing a basement, it's something you should typically leave to the pros. That’s because if something is installed correctly, it will affect your entire basement. However, you can take care of some of the smaller tasks, like filling holes or putting up some insulation.
