"Elliot Moles was super informative and explained everything to me in layman’s terms. Normally, I have experienced where men will only talk to my husband about the process and costs but Elliot made sure that he included me in the conversation. Also, our animals loved him!"

"I have used this company for three different properties that I have turned over the last 20 years in the Kansas City area. I would not use anyone else for the egress installations as this is the only crew I want cutting on my foundations And doing installation work on my properties"

"They arrived on time and did a great job and were more than fair in their business practices.  Paul was absolutely a gem.  He would not give up on our issue until we were no longer getting water in the basement!
I would use this company again in a heartbeat.

"Overall very nice guys, did a good job and I would recommend. That being said, there was good and bad that I think everyone should know - and should ask all pros about. Positives: 1. Window was installed professionally 2. All parts installed correctly and done well 3. Completed in the time frame specified 4. Nice guys that were amicable Negatives: 1. They didn't clean up - left large mess of drywall on the interior that I had to clean up 2. Bad dry wall cut - they cut it greater than 4" outside the cut in the concrete, which made it very difficult for interior framing of the window without replacing drywall 3. Trampled shrubs - they dug up the plants and shrubs, but then trampled on some of them 4. Dead grass - machine to dig out hole ripped a lot of the grass out. Also, a lot of mud was in the grass that required work to rake back into dirt areas and off the grass Not positive or negative, but be aware: 1. Settling - the dirt around the egress window settled by nearly 2-3 feet! Requires follow up to fill in the hole 2. Excess dirt - plan for a very large amount of excess dirt"

"I travel a lot and they were flexible and able to accommodate my schedule. The husband and wife both came out. They even sent me some testimonials. They were both very professional, friendly, and family oriented. They were real easy to work with and had a large focus on taking care of their customer.  They will be doing the work within the next couple of weeks."

"by David & Miyoko
Ethos Kitchen & Bath LLC epitomizes
Aristotle qualities of an ethical person - good sense, good moral
character and goodwill.  Company founder David Gurwell
used these attributes in focusing on our needs in delivering a job well done and
at a very reasonable price.  We were always first consulted before purchase of
materials regarding
best choices in price and quality.  Our newly finished
tile bath is worthy of royalty and has, no doubt, greatly
enriched the value of our home.  Both David and his Manager,
son Ben, demand quality of their "crafted artisans"
and each delivers.  All were honest, reliable, polite, clean and thoughtful.
Thank you Angie's List!  We highly recommend this
company - they'll be our first choice in any future renovation.

Egress Windows questions, answered by experts

Because egress windows are meant for emergency exiting and entering, they need to be an accessible size. The smallest an egress window is allowed to be is 15 inches in width and height, with an opening of around 4 square feet.

Yes, you can always make an existing window bigger, but the job complexity varies widely depending on the location of the window and the framing around it. Exterior walls are always load-bearing, so making windows wider will require structural changes that make for a more complex but doable project. Making windows taller often won’t require structural changes.

Finding a reputable contractor for an egress window installation involves researching and vetting potential candidates. Start by searching for local professionals, reading customer reviews, and checking their websites for a portfolio of their work.

Once you have a shortlist, ask the following questions to ensure they are qualified:

• Are you licensed and insured?

• What experience do you have installing egress windows?

• Can you provide references from previous customers?

• Do you perform the work yourself or use subcontractors?

• What is the estimated project timeline and your current schedule?

• How do you handle payment?

The average cost to install an egress window is approximately $3,900, with a typical range between $2,500 and $5,300, though costs can be higher. The final price is influenced by several factors, including the window's size, type, material, and glass quality. Other variables include labor costs, location, excavation needs, and whether permits or a structural engineer consultation are required. The price of the window itself often depends on the number of panes:

  • Single-pane: $100–$400

  • Double-pane: $200–$500

  • Triple-pane: $300–$800

Additional features like window wells or covers will also increase the total project cost. It is advisable to obtain multiple quotes from professionals to get a comprehensive understanding of the expenses for your specific project.

They meet local code demands for escape routes, lighten basements, and aid in reducing overall humidity.
