"Victor and his team were exceptional. The trimming needs were carefully analyzed as dangerous tree limbs were removed from two very large oak trees thus preventing damage to two homes and garage. All remaining debris including some very large limbs were removed from the property. A and M Tree services exceeded my expectations. I would definitely hire them again in the future. Monica B. Ferguson, Mo."

"Amazing communication, professionalism, and price. Trained arborists made short work of the job. They artfully worked around dangerous obstacles without incident or delay, taking the extra time to leave the work area cleaner than they found it. I was very impressed. The crew was not at all intimidated by navigating obstacles in the city. I will definitely be calling Baumann again for future jobs."

Small jobs welcome

"The work crew was phenominal. Before they left, they completely cleaned up the yard. Probably better that we would. They are hard workers and very cordial. I wish I had more trees and shrubs to remove!"

"I contacted STL Tree Services about a tree that I had that potentially needed to be removed. They came out and gave me a quote that I was really happy with. The quote included stump and root removal, which was what I wanted. They recommended removing the tree for multiple reasons, which I agreed with. They also let me know that there might be damage to the grass in my yard due to the equipment being used to remove the stump and roots. The crew came out to perform the removal and did a great job. They were fast and took care of the clean up. One of the guys gave me a heads up about any roots that might be left and explained that they would have to tear up quite a bit of my yard to remove them. He recommended that I leave them since they were small and shouldn’t hurt the lawnmower. He also gave me some recommendations regarding other trees that I had in my yard. When they left, there really wasn’t that much damage to my yard. I was originally a little nervous about how much damage would occur since I saw a few other reviewers mention it. It was pretty minor in my opinion, but I had also avoided watering in that area to make sure the ground would be dry when they came. Overall I had a great experience and was really impressed with the crew. The only thing that I wish had been a little better was the communication that I had with the office. I found out that they only call you a week before they are scheduled to come out and perform the service. It wasn’t really that big of a deal, but it was a few weeks before they got to me so I began to question whether or not they forgot about me. However, the office was quick to reply to my phone call and email when I reached out asking about this. I also found out that there would be a fee if you used a credit card. If I had known that ahead of time then I would have just wrote a check and given it to the crew. Now I have to mail a check to avoid the fee. Once again, really not the end of the world, but would have been nice to know ahead of time. I would absolutely recommend this company to my friends!"

"Great work. Showed up on time. Team hit the ground running. Due to space considerations and the size of the tree, the crew had to drop the tree manually. They moved yard “stuff” (birdbath , etc.) that might be in the trees path. Very professional. Team constantly raking and picking up debris. When they were done they left a very clean space behind, with no yard divots and only a little sawdust. We had a very large tree, and they had it down and out in four hours. Victor was our contact and he was very professional and explained every step of the process. Highly recommend. We are scheduling A & M for additional tree work in the fall."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Late August, September, and mid-October are the ideal months for planting a young tree. However, the best time to plant a tree ultimately depends on when the weather transitions to fall-like conditions and eventually winter frost. As long as the hottest days of summer have passed and the ground hasn’t frozen yet, you can still successfully plant trees.

Coverage varies quite a bit by policy, but most homeowners' insurance policies will cover $500 to $1,000 of the cost of removing a tree. Additionally, if your tree causes damage to your property, like your house, many policies will cover some or all of the costs to repair the damage, depending on why the tree fell.

All of the tree root removal methods mentioned above are effective on any kind of root, whether it’s still growing or simply needs a gentle nudge to finish decomposing. The only difference is that larger roots tend to be harder to remove and may require multiple chemical treatments as well as manual labor to eradicate.

In most cases, leaving tree roots underground is not a problem if the stump has been removed or ground below the soil. However, some larger roots may decompose, leaving dents in your soil. Additionally, some aggressive trees, including willows, oaks, elms, maples, and poplars may grow back from roots. Large aggressive trees with established root systems are more likely to grow back.

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.
