Dan and Danielle Randolph were able to see the vision that we had for our home and they gave creative input that made for a very unique set of custom cabinets! They operate with the utmost attention to detail--we are so pleased with the work they've done for us! Not only did they build the cabinets that we wanted, they also took on some "unfinished" projects that we needed for our new home--fixing a set of antique corbels that we wanted to use on our covered back porch, they also converted an antique fireplace mantel into a beautiful built-in book case that is in the center of our home. There are two things you can do to make a fence replacement easier—but keep in mind that easier doesn’t mean better. First, you can use a jack or some other type of machinery to pull the post out of the ground. If that’s not available, a digging bar can help.

Second, you can backfill the hole with gravel rather than creating a concrete footing. Keep in mind, gravel is less secure. You should only use it if you’re installing a lightweight fence or have heavier, clay soil.

The cost to install a fence averages between $1,800 and $4,500, ranging from as low as $450 to as much as $43,000 for a five-acre yard. Cost factors include the size of the fence, type of fence material, height, site prep, and additional features like gates. Keep in mind that custom fabrication of fences and gates can also increase the cost.

The best height for your garden fence really depends on your visual preferences and what types of pests are common in your area. If you’re only dealing with small pests, your garden fence can be just about 3 feet tall. But if you live in a region with a lot of deer, you’ll need a deer-proof fence that’s at least 5 feet tall to keep deer from hopping over the fence and grubbing in your garden.

When comparing them side by side, horizontal fences cost more than vertical fences but they do tend to be more durable. Since the majority of fences feature vertical pickets, a horizontal fence offers a more distinct look. On the other hand, horizontal fences may not always make the best privacy fences since the rails could have slight gaps.
