"Reliable - arrived on schedule each day until the job was finished. Excellent quality exterior painting job of a porch and wooden handrails with balusters - abutted different adjacent colors with a steady hand."

Customers say: Quality work

"Overall, I think John did a good job with the upfront communication about the job and the painting. Where he fell short was with time management and job clean up. He must have not given himself enough time to complete the job and seemed tp rushed through at the end, leaving sloppy paint markings in my bathroom on the corners of tub area and all over my tile floor. I also noticed later he got paint all over the carpet at the baseboard in my bedroom. I did not really care much about that because I am planning to replace it soon, but he did not seem to even try to keep it off the carpet. Finally, there were numerous paint splotches on our wood floor in the kitchen table area. This is after we had already gone through and marked several areas that needed attention. To be honest, I do not think it is he does bad work, I think he may need glasses. I have contacted him NUMEROUS times to come back and clean up these mistakes, in which he says he will come fix, but then does not. Even with the mistakes, I had planned to hire him to do further painting, as long as he would correct his mistakes, because he had a very good price. Unfortunately, I paid him for the job and he has not returned to fix the mistakes he made and seems to be uninterested in doing more work for me. Sadly, I cannot fix these things easily myself, because I am in a wheelchair and have difficulty reaching the floor and corners, so I will have to hire someone to fix it or just live with it. I would not recommend him to anyone due to these problems."

Small jobs welcome

"Steve did a great job at a reasonable price. He is professional, skilled and friendly. We'd had parts of walls and ceilings ripped out on 2 floors when our cast iron stack pipe broke. He replaced drywall, cut and replaced wood trim, baseboards, and wood paneling at the bottom half of one wall. Then he primed and painted. And, he cleaned up when done. We will definitely hire Steve for future jobs. Mary Thurmond"

Painting questions, answered by experts

Exterior paints contain more volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, making them dangerous when used indoors. Without the free ventilation of the great outdoors, it can take longer for the fumes to dissipate than interior paint. While you may notice the smell lessening more quickly, you should be wary of paint fumes inside for 48 to 72 hours after it dries.

Shadowbox fence maintenance depends on the material. But for wood shadowbox fences, maintenance typically includes annual cleaning to prevent mold growth, resealing or staining every two to three years, and promptly replacing any damaged or rotted boards. Vinyl fencing, on the other hand, typically only requires annual cleaning with a hose to maintain its appearance.

Yes, many fence repair services include finishing treatments like sanding, priming, repainting, coating, and rust treatment. These services help restore the fence's original appearance, protect it from corrosion, and enhance its aesthetic appeal. However, since offerings can vary by provider, it is best to confirm what is included before scheduling the work.

Whitewashing isn’t permanent, but it can last for a long, long time. When you apply it correctly or have a seasoned pro whitewash your brick, whitewashing can last for 20 to 30 years or longer. Whitewash is very durable and typically requires little maintenance, making it a great project for most DIYers.

The general consensus is that two coats of stain are required and since the cedar is siding, a third coat of sealant is always a good idea. This helps protect the wood and stain, so you won’t need to resand and restain for at least a decade. Each stain after the first will darken the wood, so be aware of that when choosing a colored stain.
