"He was courteous and prompt. He asked me what I was trying to accomplish and then had suggestion so I could choose what was best for me. I was anxious to get them done quickly and he was able to provide what I needed. He provided a breakdown of costs before we even started, so I knew exactly what it would cost. I had bifold doors that kept falling off. He replaced them with mirrored sliding doors. I really like them. The room looks so bright and cheerful now and they slide so easily."

"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

Doors questions, answered by experts

No, you cannot install a door without a jamb. The jamb is where the hinges, strike plate, and trim are attached. A person could ostensibly attach the hinges to the door frame itself, but it would hamper the door from opening and closing like normal. Door jambs also provide crucial support for the door and security for exterior entryways.

You should generally cut between 1/8-inch and 1 inch when planing a door. If you cut off more than that, you risk damaging the door. Planing too much from the bottom of your door can cause noticeable gaps, so it’s always better to start with as thin of a section as possible and work in thin layers until your door no longer sticks.

Leaving vents open but closing doors in unused rooms will probably not save money on your energy bill. Closed doors prevent the natural flow of air throughout the home, which could reduce the efficiency of the overall HVAC system. They could also restrict airflow into and through the return vents, making the HVAC system less efficient.

Before attempting to reinforce an apartment door, speak to the property owner. If the door hasn’t been updated in a while, the landlord may offer to cover the cost of a professional locksmith or your expense of this security update. Rekeying a door can be a costly and lengthy affair, so try low-impact, inexpensive tricks—like installing a deadlock or a door jammer—first.

Windows and doors can be fitted with specialized seals and acoustic glass options for better noise reduction.
