"Prompt, efficient, friendly service. It was a weekend - naturally, that's when things break down - and they were available to work on the HVAC the next morning. Appreciated the good communication and service. Good to know that I have them for future needs."

Small jobs welcome

"I described the issue to him over the phone and told him that one of the heating elements was warped. He went and grabbed a new element, came by within a couple of hours and got it replaced in less than 30 mins. Everything seems to be working great now and his price was alot better than most places I called, the other places wanted over triple his cost just for labor alone."

"I can't thank Jon and his team enough. I've been a customer of JonBoy's for a couple years now, and I will be forever! They are incredibly honest, trust worthy, and reliable which I appreciate. Before I found JonBoy's, I endured a horrible upsell episode with another local company. It was a very unsettling experience that I will never forget; I was quite mortified! So now, JonBoy's is the only Company I trust with my HVAC system. Many thanks to JonBoy's team! They are my Peeps!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Some of the signs of HVAC issues include rising energy bills, rooms not cooling or heating properly, loud noises when in operation, and signs of condensation. To illustrate, if you’re wondering how to stop condensation on air vents, you’ll need to have your HVAC inspected.

Yes, it is possible. An electrical fire can break out if the compressor has inadequate ventilation. When it overheats but doesn't have a proper thermal cutout, this can cause the motor to short-circuit and catch fire. This risk is exacerbated if flammable materials, like dust and fallen leaves, are clogging the unit. The compressor overheating won't start a fire by itself, but poor maintenance and installation can increase the risk once it hits its breaking point and short-circuits.

Replacing an HVAC system does not always include new ductwork. The decision depends on the condition of your existing ducts. If they are in good shape, correctly sized for the new unit, and meet current standards, they can often be reused. However, if the ducts are damaged, poorly designed, or improperly sized, they will likely need to be replaced or upgraded to ensure the new system operates efficiently. An HVAC contractor will assess your ductwork and recommend the best course of action. Typically, ductwork is purchased separately, and a full replacement will add to the overall project cost.

As a general rule, you should have your HVAC system professionally serviced at least once a year, though it's best to follow the manufacturer's specific recommendations. Many experts suggest twice-yearly maintenance: once in the spring for the cooling system and once in the fall for the heating system. This is especially recommended for older units, systems with recurring issues, or heat pumps that provide both heating and cooling. Regular service, which can cost between $100 and $550, keeps the system running efficiently, helps prevent costly future repairs, and saves money on utility bills.

To make the most out of your AC, consider implementing the following best practices:

  • Choose the right size AC for your home to ensure your unit runs as efficiently as possible.

  • Choose a window with shade, as direct sunlight can cause your AC unit to overheat.

  • Clean or replace the filter at least every two months.

  • Inspect the AC’s fan and straighten it if necessary.

  • Discontinue use immediately if you suspect a malfunction, as running the AC while broken can lead to significant issues.

  • Turn off (or adjust the temperature) when you leave the house.
