"Great Experience. I was concerned about the 22 yr age of our air conditioner able to keep working and wonder if a long wait time to get a product shipped like refrigerators last year, I called for a quote and within a week it was installed and working! Installers worked tirelessly until their work was done, clean and neat!"

"Excellent! I love JT Dunn Heating and Cooling. We selected them out of 5 different contractors to install our brand new furnace and conditioner in 2017 and we hadn't had a problem since. We just had a 3 year tune-up and nothing was wrong and the ac is quietly humming away outside. Thanks to employee Robert Fitzgerald for coming out today and doing a awesome job and keeping us as customers!"

"The responsiveness of the company to my request, and professionalism of the tech who visited us was good. However, the tech was unable to do anything about the freezer because, according to him, our freezer model was one that could only be serviced by the maker (GE). According to the tech, this sort of information should have been apparent when I called to describe the problem. Instead I spent $69 to have a tech come and tell me something that the phone agent should have. Frustrating."

"We have had a malfunctioning mini split that we could not find a technician for, after multiple failed attempts. Vintage Home Services was prompt in responding and scheduling, diagnosed our issue, and repaired for a fair price. Would highly recommend."

"Our house is 60 years old. We have lived her 42 years, this the first time we have had the ducts cleaned. The air in the house just seems lighter, the biggest thing is we have a black glass top entertainment center in the den. U could clean and 2 days later it was dirty again. We had this done2 weeks ago, it just now needs cleaning. We are very happy with the results. Would highly recomd it. Also vent centers is a filter company with wonderful filters for your air ducts. Ventcenters.com we put them in all our registers"

"These guys are the best! We called all of the "big" companies and these guys were about half the price. The weather was hot, and our air conditioner was blowing hot air. Called and they came out that day. Service was great. They replaced our air conditioner and furnace in under 4 hours. Showed us how everything worked, cleaned up, and were on their way. We would recommend them to everybody we know, and have!"

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Yes, it's normal for air conditioners to leak tiny amounts of water due to condensation. Under normal circumstances, all excess moisture travels to the drain pan to be pumped through your system's drain line. You should call a technician to diagnose the issue if you're noticing frequent leaking or pooling. It's also important to investigate if your homeowners insurance can cover water damage.

No, heat pump maintenance needs are very similar to air conditioners, including keeping outdoor units clean, changing filters regularly, and occasionally scheduling a refrigerant check to see if any has leaked out. Heat pumps typically switch automatically between heating and cooling, so you don’t need to worry about manually changing them every season. However, since they are always on call, they can develop wear and tear faster than an air conditioner.

Fixing a leak in an AC unit costs $200 to $1,600, depending on the type of leak and any related damage. But depending on the age and condition of your AC, it might make more sense to replace the AC unit instead of repairing it. If your AC is only a few years old and relatively problem-free, then repairing it is the right call. But if it’s nearing a decade old and has other issues, consider replacing it.

You may never need an AC recharge if there are no leaks. However, if your AC unit has a leak that cannot be patched appropriately, you’ll need an AC recharge every time the freon level drops low enough that it disrupts your system—this could be once every two to three years. It all depends on the size and frequency of the leak.

The average life span of an HVAC system is 15 to 20 years. Even if your old air conditioner is still functional, it isn't as energy-efficient as a newer system (especially one with an Energy Star designation). Older HVAC systems aren't as efficient, and the 10-year mark is when you should start making full system replacement plans. Twenty years in, that plan should be well underway rather than waiting for the unit to die.
