"Mr. Van Cleave gave us an estimate and an approximate time they could do the job. We told him we were in no big hurry just wanted them to not jump from one job to another. We had to wait a few weeks longer than we expected due to the extreme heat. Once they started they did the job completely. The deck was absolutely gorgeous and much nicer than we had expected. The steps leading down were wide with hand rails on both sides. The pergola they added for shade IS BEAUTIFUL.
We are more than pleased with the work and plan on using them on several more projects in the future. This is a contractor who is on site and working. We were concerned when they found damage on the siding when the old deck was removed and how much the repair would add to the cost of an already tight budget but Mr. VanCleave and his worker were able to make the needed repairs. We asked if they needed to check further down behind the older siding for any additional damage. They could have said they needed to do more and inflated the cost but they didn`t. That tells me a lot about their honesty and integrity. I would highly recommend them.

Fencing questions, answered by experts

The most durable metal for a fence is wrought iron. With proper care, a wrought iron fence can last for centuries. This means regular resealing to stave off rust and corrosion, especially in coastal climates with salty sea air. In these environments, chain link and corrugated fencing tend to stand up better to the elements with fewer maintenance needs.

The regulations for pool fence heights vary by state, so be sure to research what the legal, minimum height is in your area before purchasing or installing a fence. Though every region is different, generally a pool fence must be at least 4 and ½ feet high. If you’re unsure whether you need a fence around your pool, and how high that fence should be, contact a local pool enclosure expert to help you successfully, and safely, move forward.

A split rail fence is not typically considered among types of dog fencing. Many dogs are small enough to slip out between or under rails, and dangerous pests like coyotes can slip in. However, adding wire mesh to a split rail fence can add the security needed for dog safety without compromising the timeless look that makes the split rail style appealing.

A setback is an area of space between your fence and the property line, meaning you build a fence a few inches before your neighbor’s property begins. You can build your fence on a setback—some communities recommend this—but this means a sliver of your property will be on your neighbor’s side of your fence.

Yes, fence posts should be set in concrete to provide the proper support for the fence. If you notice your fence posts leaning, you’ll need to learn how to brace a fence post to fix the problem and prevent further damage from occurring. By bracing a fence post properly, you’ll provide stability and sturdiness to your fence for years to come.
