"Hired Art Quality Renovations to install cellar door. Ivan did an excellent job on installation. I was also informed of every step. He showed up when he said he would and left the area clean . I would hire this company again and I thank Ivan for his knowledgeable and profession work."

"It’s my pleasure to add yet another stellar review for Custom Refacing. Lonn first stopped out to our home early this year for the initial sales visit and completed his work in late August. While we had a couple of other contractors stop out as well, the decision to use Lonn was an easy one. You’ll be impressed with his soft spoken, no nonsense demeanor. He listens to what customers want and he makes great practical design and functionality suggestions. He’s not out to sell you anything. He’s very matter of fact and well organized and will do whatever he can to accommodate your list of priorities. A little bit about our project. Our home was built in 1959 and the current cabinets were originals. Eighteen years ago, we initiated a limited remodel that included adding new doors and drawer fronts, but it wasn’t a full cabinet reface. At the time, we also added new countertops, tile and an additional free standing cabinet. Our goal in 2022 was to create a more contemporary, user friendly kitchen. We wanted to move away from our dated golden-toned, wood grain cabinets and go mostly White, and also switch to new updated White Oak wood grain reface on the newer free standing cabinet as an accent. Beyond the cabinet reface, we also needed some reconfiguration of existing cabinets. This included eliminating a very old wall oven and separate cook-top and adding an over the range microwave to maximize limited countertop space. Such a change afforded us enhanced pantry storage in the former wall oven space. We did away with the gas cooktop and small cabinet below and added a new gas range to that location. Lonn then added new cabinetry above the range to facilitate the new over the range microwave. He also replaced the cabinet above the refrigerator for easier access and increased space and modified our free standing cabinet with new drawers, versus previous hard to access shelving. Lastly, he eliminated a bookshelf on the end of that cabinet to give us a more streamlined, less cluttered look with better access to a hard to reach broom closet. Lonn was punctual and his work commenced and ended right on schedule. There were no unexpected issues whatsoever. We did use the tile contractor that Lonn referred us to for the removal and replacement of the backsplash tile. He did a nice job and we were happy with him. We didn’t use Lonn’s regular countertop guy, as we found an alternative source for that part of the project. The bottom line is that we now have a far more contemporary and attractive kitchen with more usable cabinet space and greater shelf and drawer efficiency. Thanks to Lonn and his assistant for their thoughtfulness and expert handiwork. I wholeheartedly recommend Custom Refacing to anyone considering a kitchen refresh."

"Rich and Sharon are awesome. Rich hung my cabinets and did trim around my window and did odd and end cabinet work in my kitchen. I couldn’t be happier that I found them. Super nice people and already have asked them to come back for more work I am finding I want done."

Cabinet Contractors FAQs, answered by experts

We recommend installing wall cabinets first so the base cabinets aren’t in the way. This order also prevents damage to the base cabinets if you drop tools or materials when installing the upper cabinets.

It depends on your ceiling height. Wall cabinets are typically mounted 54 inches from the floor. So, if you have eight-foot ceilings, you’ll need 42-inch-high wall cabinets to fill the gap. And you’ll need 54-inch cabinets if you have nine-foot ceilings. But standard-sized cabinets don’t come in 54 inches, so you'll need to stack various sizes together. And, if you have ceilings higher than nine feet, it’s a good idea to have custom stacked cabinets made to fill your space.

Clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid harsh chemicals and keep cabinets dry to prevent damage.

There’s no strict rule about which way cabinet doors should open, but generally, double cabinet doors should open away from each other. With single doors, you want to avoid having them block your path or swing into  areas where people need to stand. Some kitchens are angled so that cabinet doors may crash into something no matter which way they swing, but the methods above can help prevent damage.

Durability and appearance are the two main drawbacks to installing budget kitchen cabinets, which are often made of less-durable wood or plastic. You're also limited to stock options, meaning you may have a small selection from which to choose.

On the plus side, you can always paint these more affordable kitchen cabinets to make them look the way you want.
