"We called Cady Handyman Services and a pleasant gentleman discussed our deck project. Cady Handyman scheduled one of his service tech to come out the follow morning. The tech arrived promptly at the scheduled time with a friendly ready to fix our problem attitude. We have raised nails and screws on our deck that always seem to reappear during winter months. These raised nails and screws made snow removal just horrible. The Cady tech recommened that we remove many of the bad loose fastners and replaced with a new non-corosive styles of screws. After a complete walk through of our project we were extremely satified.
With our project completed we are now looking forward to the winter to come.
With our total satisfaction with Cady Handyman Services we have again committed to them for our up coming basement project
"Greene Construction dug out large hole for egress window, used very competent subcontractor to cut the window opening with Greene Construction installing the window frame and window, put in a galvanized window well w/ladder per local building code regulations and hauled away the dirt. I was very impressed with the professionalism of the Greene Construction crew, including company owner Damian, who said he prefers to work on the job sites over being in the office. I also thought they went over and above the job requirements by helping me with some yard clean-up. I had a pile of concrete scraps extracted from basement as part of my basement project. I had asked Damian if he could dispose of them for me. Not only did he say "yes", Damian and his crew helped me scoop up the concrete scraps and load then in his truck. As for pricing, I had obtained approximately 5 bids and Greene Construction was right in the middle. Based on the job completed, I would rate it a good value. Ben was my initial contact at Greene Construction, he contacted me the day after my Angie's list inquiry and we scheduled the work after our meeting. In addition, I have another contractor working in my basement on the project, who also gave Greene Construction kudos for a job well done!

"After the storm came through the Minneapolis, Minnesota I was worried about the immediate influx of contractors. I waited and waited, searched and searched until all of the "fly by storm" contractors had left the area. When the clouds parted and everyone was gone there was Joe with Hoffman Weber construction. I found them at the U.S. Bank home improvement show they had. From the beginning they were professional, honest and extremely flexible. Joe came out to my house, worked with my insurance let me know what needed to be done and what could wait. The crew was timely, professional and quick. They did my house and garage roofs (different buildings) in one day. They worked with my schedule and met up with me to go through the warranty. The project manager went around the house looking for any issues and any nail left behind. I have had other contractors say they were going to "come back and check on clean up" and never heard from them again. This company sees it through to the end. They took care of the permits and even called the city inspector. When the city inspector came to the house they told me that 80% of the houses getting storm damage repair were failing inspection. What was worse is that they could not longer get a hold of the contractors. Hoffman Weber was there from start to finish and ensured that they were just down the road if anything should come up. I will be working with them again in the future!"
"GCM Inc. recently contacted us as a follow-up for their work last Fall, and the call reminded us how they are a customer-oriented company which strives to keep customers satisfied. They worked closely with us and the insurance company to carefully budget the work to be undertaken. During the work itself they directed sub-contractors and sought our approval for those sub-contractors' performance. GCM warranted the work per professional standards. There was a problem with securing the work on time and also a problem in bringing back a contractor to complete part of the work. GCM made good on what the sub-contractor failed to complete. Years ago we learned the hard way that storm-chasing contractors and laborers come and go with the weather. Now we insist that our insurance carrier works with the contractors we know and trust to do the work well. GCM Inc. is one to trust.
Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts
Carpenters are trained to take on a wide range of home projects. You can hire a carpenter to do framing, roofing, build custom furniture, and make significant upgrades to your home. General carpenters are usually able to handle most jobs. However, you may also choose to hire a carpenter who specializes in a specific type of carpentry.
Your local building code will list all the framing requirements for whatever type of structure you're building. Most exterior walls require spacing of 16 inches on-center, while many non-load-bearing interior walls only require 24 inches of spacing. However, there are also varying requirements depending on your construction material, so checking your municipality's rules is essential.
The best way to calculate framing costs is by basing your costs on the square footage of your home. On average, framing your home could cost anywhere between $7 and $16 per square foot.
To ensure you don’t go over budget, base your estimates on the higher end of the price range. If you know you’re going to use high-end materials or require a custom or complex build, you might even want to tack on an additional 5% of your budget.
Yes, you will need a jack for a rim joist replacement. To prevent sagging and facilitate the removal of load-bearing wood, you’ll need to relieve the pressure from this joint before beginning work.
Due to hydraulics and other specialized equipment, a sill plate and rim joist replacement are not typically a DIY project. Hiring a professional structural engineer and experienced contractors is the best approach to replacing rotted sill plates and rim joists.
Building a barndominium means converting a barn into a house. Barndominiums are becoming popular as spacious and stylish alternatives to typical housing structures. Old barns that become houses traditionally consist of wooden construction. However, newer structures, such as pole barns, often contain metal exteriors and roofs. Converting a metal outbuilding into a house presents an excellent opportunity to create a barndominium from metal.
