"Great. They were able to disconnect our gas appliances at two separate homes and then come back the following day to reconnect them after a move and they were nice enough to charge it as one continuous service call rather than two like most other plumbers I called charge.  They were friendly and knowledgable."

"MN Plumbing was amazing!!!! We purchased appliances from a company who uses MN Plumbing for installations. They went above and beyond by coordinating the installation of several appliances at one time even though the company we purchased from said we couldn't do that. Michelle, the office manager, was wonderfully helpful in the coordination of everything, and their installers, Oakly and Jordan, did an amazing job of installing all the appliances and took the time to explain the operation to us. They were quick and efficient and cleaned up and took all the packaging with them. We will definitely use MN Plumbing for all our future needs!!!"

"Roger and his team at Plumbline did an excellent job on installing our small deck off our back patio door. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and got the job done thoroughly, but quickly. It was great to see the design of the deck before they began work on it, to make sure all of us were on the same page. Plumbline is able to do the biggest remodeling jobs, as well as something as simple as a deck, all while still maintaining their level of professionalism. Highly recommend this company for all of your home improvement needs!"

"Had initially contacted them about testing and was pleased when they said that since they provided abatement, they didn't do testing. Their estimate was within the range of what the state asbestos program staffer had guestimated, and about 30% less than another Angie's A-lister we consulted. They offered us a reduction in the water/power charge since we lived close to their facility. Marcus communicated well and scheduled the work as early as possible since we had a time issue. He also acted quickly to help make the manifest for the disposal of the contaminated material available for the wrecking permit application."

"Jocelyn helped us to look through multiple partial slabs on-site to find what we wanted for counters in our basement finish. The entire selection process was easy and efficient, and pricing was very reasonable. Scheduling and install also went well; we knew what to expect and the schedules and installers called and showed up on time. We were very happy with the entire process with Paramount."

"My experience with him went well. His price was very good and fair; I don?t have any complains about that. Everything went fine with him. I even told him that I was really happy that I had hired him for the job. He did the job and there were no leaks; it doesn?t happen with me, usually, when I do the work. He charged me $200 for the installation of the disposal and the faucet. He did a pretty good job. However, I think he could?ve tightened the faucets a little tighter, before he left. I had to move it around to get it where I wanted it to be. Then, I had to remove one of the faucets and reheat it and then tighten it. So, if only he could?ve tightened the faucets correctly, then he would have done a perfect job. Again, I had to go out and get some more supply lines. I thought he would?ve carried the supply lines with him; I think maybe, he couldn?t carry them. He doesn?t charge much, so maybe, he can?t carry a bunch of parts, I think. He certainly knew what to do, though. He was very responsive and punctual. I didn?t have any problems with him and I?d certainly use him in the future."

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

As with many appliances, proper maintenance is key to maximizing your garbage disposal’s life span. If everyone in your household is on board with proper care and maintenance, like running water while operating the disposal, you should get plenty of years out of your unit. Avoid putting the wrong food items down the disposal, including pasta, rice, bread, and more.

These appliances certainly increase the number of things allowed down the drain, but they’re not foolproof. There are several items you shouldn’t put in your garbage disposal, according to manufacturers and technicians. Don’t put coffee grounds down the drain. The same goes for eggshells, potato peels, hard foods, onion skins, and any dry, expandable food. Most importantly, never put grease or oils down the drain.

If your garbage disposal powers up and you can hear it hum, but the arms inside aren’t moving, the problem might be a stubborn clog, a build-up of grease, or a jam of the impeller plate. To troubleshoot these, ensure your unit is off and disconnected from its power source before checking inside the drain or attempting to manually rotate the impeller arms or plate from the underside of the unit. A hex wrench can help.

Once you have your garbage disposal disconnected, you can remove the mounting bracket by unscrewing the bolts that are holding the bracket. You can back them out just enough to pop off the snap ring, which prevents the bottom portion of the bracket from disconnecting from the top when you unscrew the bolts. Use a regular screwdriver to pop off the snap ring, and the rest of the components should fall off by themselves.

On average, a garbage disposal can last anywhere from 7 to 12 years, with many models functioning well for about 10 years. With heavy usage, a motor may last a minimum of five years, while grinding plates will wear down over time. It's generally a good idea to consider a replacement if your unit is approaching the 10-year mark. Other signs that it's time for a new disposal include frequent leaks, persistent clogs, lingering odors, lack of power, or unusual noises. If your unit is not that old, it's worth investigating if a less expensive part, like a rubber seal or a loose hose, is causing the issue.
