"We chose Window Concepts because they brought product samples to our home to assist us in picking out a new entry door and sidelights. I wasn't pleased with the scheduling process for installation though. They called 45 minutes after our original installation appointment time and said they wouldn't be able to make it that day. I had to wait another week and though they were a few hours late, they did show up. Despite the wait the installers did a great job and we are happy with the finished product."

"I work from home, and it is hard to think of a more non-intrusive home project experience. There were days I would go downstairs expecting to see Scott, but instead only saw the work that was already completed, The dog wouldnâ t even bark at him, and he barks at everyoneâ ¦ including me! We had two bedrooms to finish in our basement. The job required the closets, windows, ceilings and floors to be completed. Scott was able to work with some of style demands and make the rooms exactly match the finishes in the rest of the house. He also was able to come up with a beautiful cabinet solution to cover up some unsightly wiring in one of the bedrooms. The best part was all the work was finished beyond our expectations, and well within our budget."

"Homeadvisor isn't giving me options other than metal roofing(?!), but that's not what I hired them for. They built a new bathroom (wall, toilet and 2 new sinks), renovated my basement, removed an oil tank, replaced some heaved flooring, installed new doors, and repaired some eaves and fascia boards. Everything went smoothly. I'm very happy with the work and enjoyed having them here."

"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

"Glass Guru was very professional, fast, and very reasonably priced. They kept me in the loop about the progress on the repairs of my storm windows. The came to my house, uninstalled them, took them to their shop, and returned them to me just a couple of hours later. Can't say enough good things about their work. They even washed the windows after reinstalling them!"

Doors questions, answered by experts

When it comes to painting hollow core doors, the top recommended paints to use are semi gloss or satin finish. If you do paint hollow core doors, be sure to gently sand the doors and use a paint primer to ensure the paint sticks.

There are a few reasons why barn doors are appealing to homebuyers: they’re unique and add a rustic charm to any home. While interior barn doors are a newer favorite of homeowners, when it comes to trendy renovations—like soaking tubs, farmhouse sinks, and barn doors—it’s best to wait to see if the trend withstands the test of time before making the investment.

The most common size for an interior door is 80 inches tall and 28 to 32 inches wide. However, a standard interior door can measure anywhere from 24 to 36 inches wide, depending on its intended use and the available space. According to most building codes in the U.S., a door must be at least 80 inches tall and 24 inches wide.

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.

Sliding doors and pocket doors are both great space savers, but they work a bit differently. A sliding door moves along a track and is always visible, sliding next to a wall or another door. On the other hand, a pocket door slides into a slot in the wall, hiding away completely when it's open. This makes pocket doors a perfect choice if you're looking to maximize every inch of floor space, unlike sliding doors that can still take up some room even when they're open.
