"I requested to get an estimate for the project and not even a day later I had a professional at the house with a sample of supplies that will be used and got measurements of the house. Mildew grows into porous wood, making it more difficult to remove than regular dirt (and more destructive). We suggest using a dedicated mildew and mold fungicide to remove mildew, which is found in any local home improvement store. Cost is another differentiating factor, as steel is more expensive than aluminum siding cost.

Some homeowners use caulk on the edges of clapboard siding to help seal it. However, this method invites new problems. With so many gaps sealed, clapboard siding is often unable to drain properly and moisture from rain or other sources can build up inside. This can lead to rot and other issues over time. When repairing clapboards, it’s best to avoid caulking the final product. The exception is trim around windows and doors, which should be caulked to avoid moisture problems.

No matter what types of metal siding you are cleaning, you should be able to clean them using the same processes you use for aluminum siding. Steel siding and aluminum siding both need cleaning about once per year. You can clean metal siding or aluminum siding without a pressure washer or with one.
