"Very well, it was a complicated installation with the existing fireplace having to be cut out with a torch and with both natural gas and electric lines run to the fireplace. Everything got done on time and looks exactly as advertised despite the additional subcontractors required to do the job."

"Saw the display at the State Fair and loved the product and ordered at Eden Prairie store. To get the door I wanted, I was told I had to have an oversized (ugly) surround that would stick up 5" above the decorative door, so opted for a different door. Turns out, I could have had the door I wanted with a normal sized surround that would have just been barely higher than the decorative door. I "like" my second choice door, but "loved" my first choice door that I could have had. The gas line couldn't be run through my bsmt, so had to wrap around the entire length of house. The guys that were to run the gas line wanted to run the line half way up my two-story house (UGLY!), so glad I was home to discuss and had them step it down to behind my shrubs, then up the side of a window frame and then under the siding under the deck - MUCH better option! Gas fireplace install went fine, except fan was bent, so required a second trip. Then, scheduled city inspection and then another appt. with Fireside to get it started up. The whole process takes a few wks, so keep that in mind. I absolutely *love* the fireplace and use it regularly. However, after three months of use, the remote unit inside the fireplace box started beeping intermittently. I called Fireside and they told me to change the batteries in my remote. I did, but a couple wks later, the fireplace box remote unit started beeping intermittently again. I called again and they told me that there might be some interference from other remotes and to reset the unit and that I could find the instructions on how to do it in the manual. Since the beeping was intermittent, I just left it. Then, one Sunday, the fireplace just turned on by itself - the handheld remote unit said "off". I was home alone, so no one else turned it on. A couple days later, I turned it on and set the timer, but when the time ran out, the fireplace continued to run even though the remote said "off". I called Fireside and they told me that maybe a neighbor's garage remote is triggering it. I said, for $4600, this is unacceptable, so they finally gave me the service phone number. When I called service dept and explained the situation, Elsie, told me that they could make a service call, but if the problem was caused by me then there would be a $90 charge. I said, how could it be caused by me? She said, if you reprogrammed it (as they suggested I do when I called the first time). I said, I haven't touched it and that I have no intention of paying $90 for them to repair a defective 3-mo-old $4600 fireplace. They sent out a repairman and he looked at the remote and said it was manufactured in 2007 and that they had problems with those, so he replaced it and so far, I haven't had any problems. I love the fireplace, but not the customer service - really bad! The installers and repairman were all prompt, polite and professional, so I am happy with that aspect, just not the after-sale customer svc."

"We were delighted by the work of Chad and Nicole. We converted a wood burning fireplace in our lower level to gas logs. The upstairs fireplace has an insert which they removed with care only to find the installers of the insert (not Envision) placed it on a plywood base (not a good mix - heat and wood). So in addition to installing the gas line with precision and getting us a log set that is beautiful, they reset the inert on cement board and made the house safer. Envision is awesome. Their prices are great and worth every penny."

"Helpful discussion on pros and cons of replacement vs. repair of part. Did repair. Fireplace worked. Then after further consideration decided to have part replaced. That was done. Doug provided friendly, professional service and information. I had many questions, which he answered thoroughly. Fireplace is 23 years old. When it needs further service or maintenance I’ll definitely call them again"

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Signs that your chimney may need to be replaced include visible damage like cracks in the structure, bricks, or mortar, as well as crumbling or flaking mortar and loose bricks. Leaks, dampness, discoloration, and efflorescence (a white, stain-like substance on the bricks) are also key indicators of water damage, which can compromise the chimney's safety. Addressing these problems is essential, as a chimney in this condition may be at risk of collapsing and causing major damage to your home. A full replacement costs about $10,000 on average, but can range from $3,100 to $15,400.

You can use normal bricks as cladding for a concrete or clay pizza oven or as a base underneath one. Fire bricks or solid clay bricks are necessary for an outdoor pizza oven’s floor, and you can use clay bricks for the rest of the oven.

You can burn wood with oak wilt, as heat from the fire destroys the fungus, and smoke won’t threaten healthy trees. However, wood of unknown origin should be burned during the dormant season—do not store wood in the warmer months for the winter season. If you harvest oak, let it dry in the sun before transporting it elsewhere.

If you have a chimney, you need a flue or chimney cap. The right covering keeps rain, debris, and animals from getting into your flue or chimney and causing damage. A flue or chimney cap also provides fire protection. The mesh insert around the cap keeps sparks from flying out of the chimney and igniting leaves and other materials.

For most brick cleaning jobs, including fireplace bricks, use a masonry sponge and a gentle cleaner. A simple solution of equal parts water and vinegar, or a few drops of dish soap in a bowl of water, can effectively remove grime. For tougher stains, you can use a dedicated masonry or fireplace cleaner. It is crucial to wet the bricks thoroughly with water before applying any cleaning solution to prevent the brick from absorbing it, and to rinse the surface completely afterward. Harsher cleaners containing bleach or ammonia should only be used as a last resort, and they should never be mixed together.
