Customers say: True professional

"Dmitriy and his guys did a great job re-doing a herringbone kitchen backsplash that a previous contractor had completely screwed up. Each step of the process was done well (demo, drywall repairs, tile install, etc.) and we’re extremely happy with the finished product. We would definitively hire them again."

"Quick response to my request, gave me a bid and completed the work in less than a week. Identified the leak, took out grout, replaced and sealed walk in shower. Also cut and installed tile as baseboard outside shower on request. Very professional work, kept all areas clean during and after job. I would use them again with any tile needs."

Small jobs welcome

"Michael was very friendly, polite and courteous. He fixed our recliner in a timely manner. I would highly recommend him to others and for sure would hire him again. While our job was small for him it was important to us and he treated it as such."

"The grout in our stone front steps was crumbling. C & J responded quickly to our job request even though it was a relatively small project. They provided a prompt estimate and did a perfect job of the repair. The steps look new, and the area was left spotless. Throughout, Cesar was quick to communicate and clear with information. We couldn't be happier."

"Alex did excellent work in installing the marble tile in my old house (especially challenging due to old walls which weren't plumb). The detailed work of the mosaic and mitered pencils outlining the shower niches is beautiful. He was patient with my many questions. Although he was subcontracted by my bathroom remodeler, I would easily hire him directly for another tiling job."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Generally speaking, it is better to cut tile wet when using a fast-moving wet saw to reduce dust and chipping. However, tile can be cut dry when using just about any cutting tool. Dry cutting will result in a bigger mess and may increase the risk of chipping or cracking, but if you’re just making small cuts, dry cutting is a safe and viable option. Cutting dry also means you can apply tile grout sooner, so it’s better for rushed projects.

Yes, you can tile over existing tiles in a bathroom, but it is not always recommended. For this method to be successful, the original tile surface must be clean, flat, and free of damage such as cracks, unevenness, mold, or mildew. While tiling over existing tiles can save time and money, there are potential drawbacks. The new adhesive may not bond properly, and the process adds extra weight to the wall or floor. Additionally, the increased height of the surface could interfere with door clearances. For the best and most durable results, removing the old tiles before installing new ones is generally the better option.

The tile spacing you should use will depend on the tile and where you’re installing it. Choosing the right tile spacers to maintain a consistent gap between your tiles is tricky. Generally, tile spacing shouldn’t be less than 2 millimeters on walls and 3 millimeters on floors because of stress relief requirements. Getting it wrong can result in uneven tiles and early repairs.

You cannot tile directly over hot mop waterproofing because tile requires a smooth, solid surface to adhere properly. Additionally, the shower bed pan needs to be raised and sloped toward the drain to prevent water from pooling. However, you can hot mop and apply a sloped mortar bed over the top (to which the tile can then be adhered).

Porcelain and ceramic tiles are made from clay, but porcelain tiles are fired in a kiln at a higher temperature. This makes them more durable, but it also means porcelain is more expensive than ceramic at $3 to $5 more per square foot.

Even with the higher price point, many people choose porcelain over ceramic because there are more color and design options.
