"I first met Jeff Moore of Capital Siding, Windows and Roofing in 2018. It was time to reroof my 110+ year-old house (that has more hips and angles than a fashion show) and I wanted to do it right. I took 5 bids (6 if you count the company that was a no-show) and ended up with a range of bids that varied by nearly $20,000. Capital came in near the midpoint of the bids but it wasn't the price that sold me - it was the care they put into their bid and the feeling I got from Jeff and, later, his son Danny. They included more detail than any of the other companies I considered and I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with Jeff over the course of a couple of weeks where he answered all of my questions and explained all of my options. Jeff struck me right from the start as an earnest, straight-up guy who was giving me his best offer. No posturing, no pressure, just a good offer and a good feeling. Undertaking a major project on my house, my biggest asset, was stressful. I was worried about everything. Is this a fair price? Is this the right company? Will the crew stay on schedule? Will they damage the property with their equipment? Do I have any idea what I am doing? Ultimately, you have to make a decision and for me, that's usually going with a gut feeling. My gut said Capital so I signed the contract. Once work got underway, Azael, Jeff's primary crew chief, was on site every day. He's a great guy, easy to talk to, always with a smile and a laugh. The crew did their work, cleaned up every day, and kept the materials organized. Couldn't ask for more. Jeff and Danny came out several times during the project and we spoke by phone regularly. Calls were usually returned the same day and always by the next day. Changes (like my decision to add gutter covers) were handled clearly and easily and there were no financial surprises at all. They did an excellent job. If I could do it again, would I choose Capital? Wellllll...yes. In fact, I did! In August of 2023, while I was out of town with my family, our house got walloped by the big hail storm that rolled through Minneapolis. By the time we got home a week later, work had already started on 4 houses on my block. My first call was to Capital and they came out a day later. My beautiful roof and old siding had taken major damage. Danny and one of the roofing crew walked every inch of my roof and took over 100 pictures. The damage was significant but the integrity of the roof was intact. Because of the severity of the storm, Jeff was booked until very late in the season so we decided to push it until the spring of 2024. That turned out to be a good decision as I spent a good portion of the winter arguing with my insurance company. Every time they sent an adjuster or someone to take pictures or get a materials sample, one of Jeff's team was present. I finally got things sorted out with insurance, spring arrived, and Oscar, Capital's other crew chief who is just as approachable and friendly and great as Azael, came out with his guys and got going. They did another beautiful job on the roof and the siding is just fantastic. They did tons of hand-bent aluminum work to mimic the architectural detail my insurance wouldn't cover. I think it looks better than it did originally. My wife and I are completely happy with the work and love with the way our house looks now. Total satisfaction with two excellent jobs six years apart is no fluke. Capital is as solid as they come and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. If you have a problem with your window, such as broken glass, minor leaks, or a problem with your window being stuck, repairing the broken part might be a cheaper option than replacing the entire window. However, if you have a deteriorating window frame or major leaks, buying a new window will be the better long-term solution.
The average cost to install a door is around $1,100, but you could pay anywhere from $150 for a hollow-core interior door installation up to $2,000 or a high-end exterior door installation. There are a few cost factors to consider to get an accurate price, including whether your wall opening exists, the type of door, the quality and security of the door, whether you need to replace the frame, and the door size. You can expect to pay $150 to $700 for a standard 36-by-80-inch door and between $400 and $1,600 for an 80-by-48-inch door.
Door installation usually takes three and four hours, including removing the old door and frame, fitting the new door and frame in place, shimming it to make sure it’s perfectly level, and making adjustments to the hinges and locking mechanisms to ensure proper functionality. A door-hanging professional can replace an interior door in between one and two hours. Door installation will take significantly longer if your installer needs to create a wall opening, and it can take less time if the existing door frame remains.
Window replacement costs between $180 and $410 per window, or an average of $280 per window. However, your specific replacement job could cost as little as $100 or as much as $750. Factors such as frame material, the number of windows you need, and the type of glass you order all impact the overall cost. For example, simple double-glazed windows will cost $3 to $6 per square foot, but the stronger tempered glass ranges from $12 to $14 per square foot.
It’s possible to install a door yourself if the wall opening already exists, but the work is rather complicated, and a professional installation is usually well worth the investment. For your door to work and close properly, you’ll need to shim and level the door frame in your wall perfectly, which can be difficult. Additionally, we recommend you always hire a professional door installer to place an exterior door, as mistakes during the installation process can lead to poor security for your home.
