"Profi's installation of a backsplash was awesome, the craftsmanship is stellar. Nazar and Yrick did a wonderful job and it took even less time than estimated. Highly recommend and we will use them in the future when the needs arise."

"I am so happy with my finished backsplash! Gary, the owner, did the estimate. His price was in the middle of the estimates I had gotten from Angi. I signed the contract that day and the work was done that week. The installer was a pro who knew what he was doing and, using a quick drying mastic, finished the project in one day! Yeah!"

"Installed new laminate countertops. Also installed new backsplash behind the sink and stove with ceramic tiles. Jeff did an awesome job. Looks wonderful. Jeff is easy to work with and very professional. Did a great job of cleaning up after the work was done . His price for the work to be done was very reasonable."

"We had contacted several contractors that do bathrooms, but none that would do a project this small. Unless we were doing a total bathroom remodel or complete shower replacement, they didn't want to talk to us. This is when we turned to Darren at Twin City Handyman. Lester showed up to do the work promptly at 8:00 am. Covered all traffic areas to the second floor master bath with tarps to protect our carpet and proceeded to remove and dispose of the old shower base. He had to move one water line in order to position the new drain. He built up and secured the sub floor for the new base we had purchased at Lowes. He also had to remove one row of porcelain tile to compensate for the difference in height of the new base. After the new base was set he retiled and grouted the row of tile that was removed and reinstalled the shower door/enclosure. I might add that this new shower base, 42 X 42, was 125 lbs., the old one was maybe 15 - 20 lbs., which posed an added challenge to the project. Lester called in reinforcements (Nick) to help with positioning of the new base. Lester did an excellent job and we are very pleased with the outcome of the project."

"Brian was great! I had floor to ceiling old sliding closet doors in two bedrooms. Brian came to my house and measured my closets to make sure I got the right size. I ordered mirrored closet doors as replacements. Brian then came back to my house, took out the old doors and installed the new ones. What a job. Both sets of doors were large and unwieldly, but Brian and his assistant were careful - nothing in my house was damaged. Then they hauled everything away! Price was very affordable and I am happy with their work. I would hire them again."

"Had a new shower installed. We have a fairly large shower. Removed the tile, moved the built-in bench to the opposite wall, replaced all three shower heads. Elliott our installer was great! It was a big job and he got it done and I couldn't be happier!"

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, but you’ll have to use some other type of tool to avoid damaging the tile and possibly injuring yourself. Some alternatives to tile cutters include a glass cutter, angle grinder, and wet saw. Depending on the tile material, you might simply be able to measure and score it with something sharp, like a carbide-tipped pencil, and break it off. Be sure to sand the edge for a smooth installation.

For glass tile, you want to use unsanded grout. Sanded grout is a stronger and grittier cement grout that is great for installing tiles with wider gaps and into joints. However, it is susceptible to scratching glass tile and is more difficult to use in thinner gaps. Unsanded grout, while more expensive, is easier to fit between thin gaps and is less harsh on delicate materials, like glass tile.

You can, in theory, tile your fireplace hearth with most tiles. However just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. For example, it’s much better to use unglazed tiles because glazed tiles are more resistant to cracking under extreme heat. Porcelain is more heat-resistant than ceramic, but you can still design the hearth as you like by putting the most heat-resistant tiles directly under the fire and, if it matches your style, add more decorative tiles further from the center of the fire.

Tile installation can be expensive because it requires more time and labor to install than many other materials. For example, laminate flooring can click and lock into place, and carpet comes in large rolls that you can secure to the floor. On the other hand, tiles need to be cut, laid individually, grouted, and left to cure.

Glass tile can cost as much as or more than other durable tile types. When choosing the right tile for you, knowing the advantages and disadvantages of each can help you make an informed decision. The pros and cons of glass tile include:

Pros

  • Light-reflecting to add brightness

  • Waterproof and mold-resistant

  • Made from recyclable materials

Cons

  • High cost compared to similar and more durable materials

  • Usually requires professional installation

  • More easily scratched compared to materials like ceramic and porcelain
