When he found the part for a very reasonable price, he urged me to fix the fixture rather than getting a new one and that was the right decision for us at this time. He drove out to get the part, installed it and then diagnosed the other problem promptly and expertly, again giving us a good suggestion -- this time to replace the fixture ourselves. I dropped my boat off on a Monday morning after having some trouble starting the motor on the previous Saturday at the lake, so I had asked them to try to solve the problem and also to fix my tilt-and-trim switch (they said a tune-up would be $80 and a $25 switch should do it); since I respected their pricing and was only into it for $100, I figure it would be a great time to replace a bent prop blade (the quote to replace it was $140),and finally I needed a small bracket for my trailer to support the motor guide arm (I figured that would be less than $20)... so I'm anticipating spending $260 and feeling pretty good about going to Tensen Marine at this point.
So, each day I would drive right by this shop on my way to work, but I noticed that I hadn't really seen my boat move at all during the first week. I called them ten days after dropping it off to see what the status of the repairs was (anticipating to pick it up soon) but I got a response that stated they "would be able to get to it over the next couple of days" and that the repairs shouldn't be "any trouble at all". So, I told them since it was already mid-September, I probably would just store the boat for the winter - I asked them what it would take to get my boat ready for the winter and the response I got was "it's no big deal, we'll just fog the carbs and stabilize the fuel".
Well, four more days later, I finally walked into the shop on a Saturday with my young son and daughter expecting to pay around $300, but when the women at the counter was done giving me her "what do you want" look, she casually grabs the invoice and says "that'll be four hundred and ninety-seven dollars". I felt like she had just kicked me in the stomach! Now keep in mind, since committing to the early figure of $260, I was expecting to spend around $300, so I said to her "how does that happen that no one from your shop has the courtesy to call and make me aware that an additional $200 was going to be needed for the repairs? She plays the "I'm just the cashier" card and just expects me to give her the money. At this point, I'm looking at my kids trying not to lose it and all I keep thinking to myself is "what am I doing spending this much money on a 1979 Lund with a 40 hp motor that I use a few times a year"!
I proceed to speak with one of the owners about the bill and I explained what I had agreed to and so we went through the invoice, itemizing and questioning why this charge and why that charge - because they charged me separately for "fogging the carb" and then a full $80 for winterizing. He tells me that some of the charges were questionable, then he wrote down my address and informed me that he'd look into it and likely send me a reimbursement check. GREAT! Until I wait another week only to hear nothing, so I call them back, only to find out that they are willing to send me a check for $35.... what... after all the breakdowns in communication and service, you feel that $35 is the right course of action?
Well, I guess my course of action as a consumer is that I feel it is important to give others the heads-up, and now I understand why people like us sincerely appreciate the ability to use a great resource like Angie's List! To end this story... the reimbursement check never found its way to my mailbox... and I have to wait six more months to see if the work they did will be satisfactory. Naturally I wanted this problem taken care of as soon as possible. I got on the phone and checked rates and availability of area plumbers. Rates were higher than I expected (as usual) and everyone seemed to be booked up. One of the plumbers I called suggested Mike and Roto-Rooter. I had called there previously, but got an answering machine and didn't think this was a sign I could have my drain cleaned that day. This time I left a message, and Mike soon called back. Even though he had several jobs lined up for the day, he made time to drive out to my place - about 11 miles out of his way - then waived the extra distance fee, as \"he was in town anyway\". I would have gladly paid it just to get someone out! Didn't take him long at all - the drain was soon running freely and all was cleaned up... and best of all, the fee was 1/3 to 1/2 of what I had been quoted by other places. Mike was friendly and professional. I would not hesitate to call him to help me in the future."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/mn/eveleth/roto-rooter-plumbing-and-drain-services-reviews-6167939.htm"},"position":9},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"ERIC'S HANDYMAN SERVICE","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"MN","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Mary J."},"reviewBody":"Eric is prompt, courteous, timely and best of all does excellent work! to be sure that theres an very fair priced agreement inplace to know what will be accomplish with the end result is exaclty what was discussed so going into it i know as well as yourself know and agree on the exact dollar amount that is fair or lower than most only to ensure a very stress free time as well as repeat costumers is what i look to acheive. i will not take a job that would be labeled or talked about as in "slapped together quick" i just cant do that because of how i was tought as i got more serious about what i do for somone is what they have to live with as well as i do share that feeling and i dont go home at night wondering about anyhting because when i do sothing i do it right and i do it good so that whoever its for is happy with the outcome. i feel that if your able to explain what you need done im confedent that the result will be just that. if you had water damage or any type of damage to your property i will bring it back to its origal state or you may have some add ins or more depth to the job resulting in a new and inproved type of result. also lets say the way things are desighned just do quite fit your style or simply just fit objects in to anymore because familys get bigger and the house stays the same . even if you know something has to change but you have no idea what to do about it thats ok we can dicuss many types of options and ideas untill you feel or find just that perfect mixture you needed. or if you just simplely need another set of hands to get a task done quickly, safly and not pay so much that your questioning to go it aloone because i can assure you well agree on what you want im there to listen and understand your hurdles and hofully end up with you going out to shop and upon your return its finished, im gone, and its already been paid! so that you can get back to your day without any issues.

FAQs for sink repair projects in Gilbert, MN
The average cost to hire a handyman ranges from about $40 to $140 per hour. Average project cost ranges between $180 and $700, but the cost per hour and per project depends heavily on the type, size, and complexity of the project. Yes, most states require plumbers to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
The average cost to unclog a drain is around $200, with prices ranging between $110 and $800, depending on the type of drain and the extent of the clog. Since the labor involved varies, most plumbers will charge an hourly rate for drain cleaning.
Yes, you should hire a handyman who’s licensed, certified, and insured, if possible. States have different requirements for handyman licensing, registration, and certifications. If licensing is required in your area, you may pay more for a licensed handyman with experience than one who is not licensed or certified, but you’re likely to get a better end result for your project. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local handymen guidelines.
