"He did a really good job, communication was a bit of a problem back and forth and the final bill came in a little higher than we expected, not phenomenally higher. I would recommend them."

Initially incorporated in 1973 as Advent Custom Homes, Inc. by George Rossez (who still runs this small family business today), the company's early emphasis was on new home construction with a few remodeling jobs a year as well. By 1980 Advent converted an old filling station into their current office at 350 Little Canada Road, and the company's focus shifted to remodeling. Advent is a member-in-good-standing of the Remodelors Council of the Twin Cities (RCTC), the Builders Ass'n. of the Twin Cities (BATC), the Builders Ass'n. of Minnesota (BAM) and the National Ass'n. of Home Builders (NAHB). Build swimming pools, hot tubs, chemicals, retail, service, liner replacement, outdoor kitchens, grills, fire tables

"UNETHICAL BUSINESS, STAY AWAY. My experience with the service department of this company was less than one star. Here are some key takeways: (1) price gouging, (2) untrained technicians, (3) non-transparent pricing, (4) requirement that a credit card be left on permanent file with the company in order to schedule service, (5) won't schedule service while the homeowner is home but rather shows up without notice, (6) aggresively rude Service Manager (Jesse Peterson), and (7) unethical practices."

Pool Construction and Installation questions, answered by experts

If you live in an area where pool enclosures are expected, like in Florida, having one won't necessarily increase your home value. However, it's worth noting that in warm climates, a pool can add $11,600 to $95,000 to a home's value.

On the other hand, if you're in an area where pool enclosures are not common, having one might set your home apart from the crowd. Depending on the appraiser, you may see an additional $25,000 to $27,000 or more for an enclosed, inground pool when it comes time to sell.

The best way to heat a swimming pool depends on your pool and location. Those living in sunny environments may find that a solar-powered heater works just fine, but you may need something more reliable, like a gas or electric heater if it’s often cloudy where you live. When in doubt, try a few lower-cost options first to see if they meet your needs before going all in on a more expensive heater.

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.

A pool enclosure could be a great decision if you’re considering dedicating funds toward pool remodeling costs. Pool enclosures offer benefits like enhanced security and keeping out dirt, debris, dust, and insects—which helps reduce the maintenance and cleaning needed—and uninvited animals and trespassers. Your enclosure can also provide extra shade and UV protection to make your pool time more enjoyable. In some cases, your pool enclosure may increase your home’s value.

Small animals, particularly rats and mice, like to burrow inside pool heaters. To keep them out, seal any entry points with caulk or steel wool. Then, place mothballs inside or around your pool heater. As a final measure of protection, you can cover the pool heater in hardware cloth or wood paneling to further block entry points.
